Chapter 14: Unspoken Truths

The silence in the room was a living, breathing thing, heavy with the weight of exposed lies and shattered reputations. Eleanor Bennett, her face a storm of rage and cold calculation, stared at Greg. Her lips moved, forming silent, furious words that needed no sound.

Then, she turned to her own lawyer, a sharp, imposing man named Mr. Harrington. A hushed conversation followed, quick and urgent. Mr. Harrington then rose.

“Mr. Arbitrator,” he announced, his voice slicing through the tension, “given the immediate evidence of criminal forgery and embezzlement directly linked to Mr. Gregory Bennett and Mr. Fallow, my clients, Eleanor and Marcus Bennett, are instructing me to immediately sever all legal ties with Mr. Gregory Bennett in this and any related proceedings.”

Greg’s head snapped up, his eyes wide with disbelief. “Mother? What are you saying?”

Eleanor ignored him, her gaze fixed on Mr. Harrington, a silent command for him to proceed. She was protecting the family foundation, herself, and Marcus. Greg was suddenly, utterly, alone.

“Furthermore,” Mr. Harrington continued, “my clients wish to state for the record that they were unaware of Mr. Bennett’s and Mr. Fallow’s explicit intent to embezzle funds from Lin-Bennett Productions using forged signatures.” It was a transparent attempt to distance themselves, to save their own skin.

Arbitrator Vance watched the scene unfold with an impassive expression. Once the flurry of legal repositioning subsided, he cleared his throat.

“Based on the presented evidence,” Vance stated, his voice firm, “I am dismissing Mr. Gregory Bennett’s petition for sole custody of Leo Bennett. Custody will remain with Ms. Maya Lin-Bennett. Furthermore, all existing freezes on Ms. Lin-Bennett’s personal bank accounts are hereby lifted, effective immediately.”

A wave of profound relief washed over me, so potent it almost made my knees buckle. Leo was safe. My financial lifeline was restored.

“Mr. Fallow’s records, revealing the deliberate embezzlement and forgery, will be referred to state investigators for criminal inquiry,” Vance continued, his gaze flicking to the ashen-faced accountant. “Mr. Bennett, you are hereby stripped of all managerial control over Lin-Bennett Productions and face a pending civil embezzlement countersuit from Ms. Lin-Bennett.”

Greg sat there, a hollow shell of his former arrogant self, his grand scheme in ruins.

Outside the courthouse, the chaos of the press was a stark contrast to the quiet victory I had just secured. Reporters swarmed, microphones thrust towards me. Julian, who had been waiting patiently, stood by my side, a silent, unwavering presence. Ethan, looking exhausted but triumphant, was close behind.

But before I could even address the swirling questions, two impeccably dressed studio representatives pushed through the crowd.

“Ms. Lin-Bennett,” one of them said, his face devoid of emotion. “We regret to inform you that due to the ongoing public trial and the irreparable damage to your professional reputation, your multi-picture contract with the studio has been officially canceled. Our legal team will be in touch regarding the termination clauses.”

The words hit me with a cold, brutal finality. The industry, the world I had fought so hard to belong to, was closing its doors. I had won my son, I had won my freedom from Greg’s financial trap, but my fifteen-year producing career in Los Angeles, the one I had painstakingly built from the ground up, was over. The Hollywood dream, a future I had envisioned for so long, had dissolved in the fallout.
