My Political Business Partner Cornered Me Outside Court While 7 Months Pregnant — He Didn't Realize His Security Chief Was Working For Me
I watched from a discreet vantage point inside the Capitol as federal marshals led Marcus Hollister out onto the grand marble steps. The press, already alerted by the sudden activity, swarmed forward, cameras flashing like an angry hive.
Marcus, despite his earlier collapse, had regained a semblance of his politician’s composure. He walked with his head held high, a defiant glint in his eyes, even as the handcuffs glinted at his wrists.
As he was about to be led into a waiting federal vehicle, his eyes found mine through the crowd and the flashing lights. The marshals paused for a moment, navigating the press scrum.
Marcus turned his head, leaning slightly towards me, his voice dropping to a low, chilling whisper that was meant only for my ears.
“You think you won, Sarah?” he murmured, a mirthless smile touching his lips. “This is just the first round.”
My breath hitched. His arrogance, even now, was breathtaking.
“My PAC fund has many friends,” he continued, his voice barely audible over the din. “Very powerful friends.”
He paused, letting the implication hang in the air. “The Assistant State Attorney General. He’s been a primary beneficiary, Sarah. For years.”
A cold dread seeped into my bones. The Assistant State Attorney General. That was a high-level official, a gatekeeper of state justice.
“He’ll ensure this little misunderstanding is cleared up,” Marcus whispered, his eyes glittering with a venomous confidence. “Charges quietly dropped. No trial. No conviction.”
He held my gaze, his message clear: his reach extended far beyond the Capitol steps. He might be in handcuffs now, but his power was still very much alive.
Then, he was roughly guided into the black SUV. The door slammed shut, and the vehicle peeled away, leaving the flashing lights and murmuring crowd in its wake.
I stood there, the weight of his words pressing down on me. The satisfaction of his arrest was suddenly muted, replaced by a fresh surge of fear. Marcus Hollister might be physically restrained, but his political shadow loomed large.
This wasn’t over. Not by a long shot.
