My Political Business Partner Cornered Me Outside Court While 7 Months Pregnant — He Didn't Realize His Security Chief Was Working For Me
I reread Marcus’s text, the cold demand for an unconditional surrender. My hands were steady now. The initial shock had given way to a quiet, burning fury.
“He thinks this is checkmate,” I told Gavin, my voice calm despite the storm inside me. “He thinks I’m desperate enough to sacrifice everything for my child’s health.”
“And are you?” Gavin asked, his eyes searching mine.
“I am,” I affirmed, “but not in the way he expects.”
I picked up the secure burner phone Gavin had given me earlier. I typed out a message, carefully crafting each word.
“Tell him I’ll sign,” I said to Gavin, showing him the draft. “Tell him his tactics have worked. I’m broken. I’m ready to concede.”
Gavin read the message. “You want to meet him?”
“Alone,” I specified. “In his private legislative office at the State Capitol. No lawyers, no Raymond Finch. Just us.”
A flicker of understanding crossed Gavin’s face. “You’re walking into the lion’s den, Sarah.”
“Exactly,” I said, a cold smile touching my lips. “He wants to gloat. He wants to see the surrender in my eyes. He wants to witness my complete capitulation.”
I sent the message to Marcus’s number. “Consider this an olive branch, Marcus. You’ve won. I just want this nightmare to end.”
Within minutes, my phone vibrated. A single word from Marcus: “Excellent. Tomorrow. 10 AM. My office. Be prompt.”
He was taking the bait. He thought he had me, broken and compliant. His ego wouldn’t let him refuse the satisfaction of my defeat.
“This is risky,” Gavin stated, his expression serious. “The Capitol is crawling with his people, his influence. If he senses anything…”
“He won’t,” I interrupted, my gaze fixed on the message. “He’s too arrogant, too consumed by his own victory. He sees weakness where there is only strategy.”
My heart pounded, but it was not from fear. It was the thrill of the hunt. I was giving Marcus exactly what he wanted: the illusion of total control. He would bring the documents, Raymond Finch would be on standby, and he would watch me sign away my life.
But he wouldn’t be watching closely enough. The Capitol building might be his domain, but tomorrow, it would become my trap.
