My Political Business Partner Cornered Me Outside Court While 7 Months Pregnant — He Didn't Realize His Security Chief Was Working For Me
The three black SUVs idled, engines purring like restrained beasts. Armed security guards, wearing dark suits and earpieces, fanned out across the plaza. They moved with precision, forming a cordon around me, cutting off Marcus’s escape route and caging him against the federal courthouse’s cold stone wall.
Marcus Hollister’s face went from smug to a furious mask. His eyes bulged, flickering between me and the sudden barricade.
“Drake! What is the meaning of this?” Marcus shrieked, his voice cracking. He gestured wildly at Gavin, who stood impassively at the head of the security detail. “These are *my* orders! Get this woman in the car, now!”
Gavin Drake remained perfectly still. His gaze was fixed on Marcus, calm and unblinkling.
“My orders have changed, Mr. Hollister,” Gavin stated, his voice flat and steady. No one moved.
Marcus took a step forward, his jaw clenching. He tried to push through the perimeter of guards, but two men subtly shifted, blocking his path without a word.
The air thrummed with unspoken defiance. This wasn’t just a security mix-up; it was a direct challenge.
My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic drum against my high-risk pregnancy. I could feel the cold seeping through my coat, but a different kind of chill spread through Marcus.
Gavin walked directly toward me, his movements deliberate. He reached into his inner jacket pocket.
Marcus, momentarily stunned into silence by the open insubordination, could only watch. His face was a roadmap of dawning horror.
Gavin pulled out a small, sleek black phone. It looked like any burner phone, but it was thinner, clearly military-grade.
“This is a secure line, Ms. Lindqvist,” Gavin said, his voice low enough that only I could hear. He pressed it into my gloved hand. “It’s encrypted. Marcus thinks he cut you off from everyone.”
I clasped the phone, its cool surface a surprising comfort. My fingers brushed his as I took it.
“He’s been playing a long game,” Gavin continued, his eyes darting to Marcus, who was now sputtering at the guards. “He moved Arthur’s stake in the PAC into a blind trust he controls months ago. Made it look like Arthur betrayed you, isolated you financially.”
A sharp intake of breath caught in my throat. This was the first piece of the puzzle, revealing just how deep Marcus’s manipulations went. The engineered family friction, the illusion of Arthur’s betrayal – it was all a setup.
“He wanted you to feel completely alone, Ms. Lindqvist,” Gavin added, his expression grim. “He thought you had nowhere to turn.”
The guards remained unmoving, creating an impenetrable wall. Marcus was still shouting, his words losing all coherence as he realized the depth of the betrayal unfolding before him. He was trapped.
