My Mob Matriarch Mother Faked My Overdose Death To Take My Syndicate Rank — 12 Years Later, A Hidden Mob Ledger Revealed Her Betrayal
The first gunshot echoed like thunder in the cavernous meatpacking plant. Mark, eyes wide with a manic terror, squeezed the trigger again and again. Muzzle flashes lit up the dim warehouse, painting the scene in stark, flickering light.
Sal DeMarco’s enforcers, hardened and disciplined, reacted instantly. They dropped to one knee, returning fire with brutal precision. The air filled with the deafening crackle of automatic weapons, splintering wood, and the chilling thud of bullets hitting flesh.
Mark screamed, a guttural sound of pain and despair, as he was struck three times in the chest. His body jerked violently, blood blossoming on his crisp white shirt. He collapsed instantly, hitting the concrete floor with a sickening thud, the 9mm clattering from his grasp. His eyes remained open, staring blankly at the high, dark ceiling.
Through the chaos, another figure lunged forward. Elena. She had followed Mark, had somehow found her way into this den of violence, desperate to protect her family. I saw her just as she tried to throw herself in front of Mark, a futile, maternal instinct to shield him.
A stray bullet, meant for another of Sal’s men, tore through her abdomen.
Her eyes met mine across the smoky, illuminated expanse. Shock, then agonizing pain, twisted her features. She stumbled, a hand pressed to her stomach, and fell heavily to the concrete floor, only a few feet from Mark’s still body.
I scrambled to her side, ignoring the remaining gunfire as Sal’s men systematically eliminated the last pockets of resistance from Teresa’s few remaining loyalists. The acrid smell of gunpowder filled my nostrils.
“Elena!” I cried, my voice raw. I cradled her head in my lap, my hands stained with her rapidly spreading blood.
Her breath hitched, coming in ragged, shallow gasps. She looked up at me, her eyes clouded with pain. “Mia,” she whispered, her voice barely a thread. “Promise me… you’ll protect her.”
“I promise,” I choked out, tears burning my eyes. “I will. She’ll be safe.”
A faint, loving smile touched her lips, a last fleeting moment of peace in the terror. Her eyes fluttered, then stilled. Her last breath exhaled, a soft sigh that vanished into the roar of the lingering gunfight.
She was gone. My love. The mother of my daughter. Lost in a senseless crossfire, a tragic consequence of a war that wasn’t hers.
The shooting died down. The heavy silence that followed was broken only by the whimpering of a wounded man and the harsh commands of Sal DeMarco. He stood over Teresa, who remained chillingly composed, her eyes devoid of emotion, even as she stared at the bodies of both her sons.
“Teresa Rossi,” Sal’s voice was cold as death. “Your reign is over. Your assets are forfeit. And your judgment has been delivered.”
Two of Sal’s hulking enforcers grabbed her, one on each arm. They dragged her away, not towards an ambulance or a police car, but deeper into the darkness of the abandoned facility, towards an unseen exit, towards a fate known only to the underworld. She didn’t struggle. She didn’t even look back.
I stayed there, on the cold, blood-stained concrete, holding Elena’s lifeless body, surrounded by the devastation of a family consumed by greed.
