The Blood Clock's Toll: A Boston Watchmaker's Deadly Survival War Against His Own Brother
👉 Previous Decision: Silas attempted a false surrender, but Maya intercepted his mercenaries in the tower.
The Custom House Clock Tower’s motor room was a symphony of iron and thunder. Rain lashed against the ancient windows, and the giant gears of the tower clock turned around us with deafening thuds.
No police or public witnesses. Just us.
Julian stepped into the dim, flickering light, the blood clock clutched in his hand. His estranged brother, Silas, stood opposite him, a suppressed handgun now raised and pointed at my chest.
Silas’s eyes burned with a cold fury, a man stripped of everything. “The key, Julian,” he snarled, his voice barely audible over the grinding gears. “Give me the key to my fortune.”
My own heart hammered, but a strange calm settled over me. I presented the open blood watch, its acoustic cylinder exposed.
“A final trade, Silas,” I said, my voice steady despite the tremor in my hands. “My life, for Maya’s permanent safety. And the return of my stolen memories.”
I thought of Detective Kincaid, whose quiet investigation of the 2012 vault heist had brought him close to me. He’d seen the truth, known I took the fall to protect Maya. I knew, with a certainty that settled deep in my bones, that Kincaid would never reopen that case now. He understood. My past was finally being buried.
Silas let out a sharp, mirthless laugh. “You think you have leverage, brother? I hold your mind in my hand.”
He gestured with the pistol. “Drop the watch. Or I end this now.”
But this wasn’t just about survival anymore. This was about retribution.
