When a ruthless executive brother locks his 70-year-old mother in a Rottweiler pen to steal $45 million in corporate land deeds, an outsider sister uncovers a shocking DNA secret that turns their c...
The iron gates of the security compound clanged open. Derek Holbrook, still clutching the $45 million real estate transfer deeds, pivoted towards me. His face was a mask of cold fury, but his eyes darted between me, the massive Rottweilers, and Eleanor, who sat on the concrete floor, unmoving.
I took a deep breath. The metallic tang of fear pricked at my throat, but the image of Eleanor, bruised and vulnerable, solidified my resolve.
I stepped directly into the enclosure. The ground was rough gravel, digging into the soles of my new corporate flats. The air inside felt thick, heavy with the scent of dog and damp concrete.
One of the Rottweilers, the alpha male with a scarred muzzle, let out a low, guttural rumble. It was deeper than any sound I’d ever heard from an animal. His powerful body tensed.
Derek’s head snapped towards the dog. A flash of genuine fear crossed his face, replacing the earlier rage.
“Don’t you dare,” Derek snarled, taking a hesitant step back. He didn’t sound so confident now.
The dog ignored him. Its eyes, dark and intelligent, were fixed on me for a split second, then on Derek. It seemed to assess.
Then, with a sudden, explosive lunge, the alpha Rottweiler erupted. It wasn’t a direct attack on Derek, but a furious, protective dart towards his side.
The dog’s powerful jaws clamped down. Not on Derek himself, but on the expensive leather briefcase he held so tightly.
A sharp, tearing sound ripped through the sudden silence. The expensive Italian leather groaned, then gave way.
The briefcase burst open. Papers, dozens of them, sprayed out across the gravel, fluttering like startled birds. Mortgage documents, legal contracts, and something else – a small, thick folder bound with a red clip – scattered across the dirty concrete floor.
Derek let out a choked cry, stumbling backward against the chain-link fence. He was more surprised than hurt, his hand still gripping the shredded handle.
The dog, satisfied, released its grip on the ruined leather. It settled back, a low, continuous growl rumbling in its chest, effectively pinning Derek against the fence. Its eyes never left him.
Eleanor, still inside the kennel, watched the scene unfold. Her expression was unreadable, a strange mix of exhaustion and something else I couldn’t quite decipher. She simply watched, a silent observer in her own cage.
The gravel crunched under my feet as I took another step forward, closer to the scattered papers. My heart hammered against my ribs. This wasn’t just about Eleanor anymore.
This was about whatever secrets had just exploded onto the compound floor.
