Framed by Her Ruthless Boss to Euthanize a $45,000,000 Champion Racehorse, Caretaker Maya Uncovers a Hidden Will and Triggers a Deadly Syndicate War for Control of Holbrook Thoroughbred Holdings
I pushed Red Diamond further into the back of his stall, creating just enough space for me to step in front of him. The heavy oak door had already clattered shut behind me, sealing us in.
Victoria’s shadow lengthened on the straw-strewn floor as she stepped into the harsh single bulb light, the syringe in her hand glinting.
“Get out of the way, Maya,” Victoria said, her voice a low growl. “You know what has to happen.”
My chest tightened, a cold certainty settling in my gut. “No,” I said, my voice hoarse. “I won’t. Not to him.”
Red Diamond shifted behind me, a deep rumble vibrating through his massive frame. He knew something was wrong.
Victoria’s jaw clenched, a muscle twitching. She glanced toward the heavy barn door, then back at me. Her gaze hardened, dismissing my defiance.
She gave a subtle, almost imperceptible nod toward the shadows beyond the stalls.
Two large men, built like brick walls, immediately materialized from the dimly lit aisle. Their presence was sudden, their movements quick.
They moved past Victoria, flanking me, cutting off any escape. One grabbed my arm, twisting it behind my back, while the other pinned my shoulders against the rough-hewn wood of the stall door.
The smell of old hay and horse sweat suddenly felt suffocating. I struggled, but their grip was like iron.
“You’re making this much harder than it needs to be,” Victoria murmured, stepping closer, the syringe now held steadily. She didn’t even look angry, just impatient.
A soft whinny came from Red Diamond, a mournful sound as he watched, his large eyes wide with unease.
