Burnt-out Nanny Maya Fights $40 Million Estate Employer Locking 4-Year-Old Heir With Giant Python, Uncovering Spectral Collar Cam Evidence and a Secret Gothic Inheritance Trust
A shrill, piercing shriek tore through the silence of the 13th-floor hallway. It wasn’t my voice, though it easily could have been.
It was the fire alarm, blaring its frantic warning through the building’s loudspeakers.
The sound vibrated through the marble floor, making Julian Croft, the notary, flinch back. He clutched his briefcase tighter, his face pale as he glanced wildly around.
Victoria Harrington, however, went rigid. Her eyes, usually so calculating, widened with pure, unadulterated panic.
“What have you done?” she hissed, her voice barely audible over the din.
I didn’t answer. I just watched her. Her carefully constructed facade cracked, revealing the raw fear beneath.
She didn’t try to stop me. She spun on her heel, her silk blouse fluttering as she darted towards the hidden service stairwell, a dark, narrow opening I rarely saw anyone use.
She was fleeing.
From somewhere below, the guttural roar of an engine grew louder. Sirens joined the building alarm, a chorus of urgency closing in.
Heavy boots thudded on the polished floor as a team of firefighters, clad in bulky gear, burst from the main elevator. A police captain, broad-shouldered and grim-faced, was right behind them.
“Fire alarm on the thirteenth floor!” the lead firefighter barked, his voice muffled by his helmet. “Where’s the source?”
I pointed a trembling finger at the reinforced double doors to the nursery, where Leo was. “My employer locked my four-year-old charge in there with a dangerous animal. There’s no fire, but there’s a child in danger.”
The captain’s eyes narrowed. He took in Julian Croft, still standing dumbfounded, clutching his briefcase of fraudulent papers. He took in the locked, barricaded doors.
“Stand back!” a firefighter ordered, already hefting an axe. The impact against the solid wood echoed like a gunshot.
Splinters exploded inward. The heavy frame groaned, then tore away from its hinges with a sickening screech of metal. Dust and debris billowed out into the hallway, obscuring the view.
But the doors were open.
