Chapter 12: The Quiet Victory

The next morning, I confronted Arthur in the quiet solitude of his small, tidy room, away from Kingsford’s watchful eyes. He sat on the edge of his bed, listening intently as I laid out the ancient charter and explained Sarah’s incredible revelation.

His eyes widened, reflecting the faded script. “The Ellison Estate? This place… was ours?”

“It still is, Grandfather,” I insisted, pointing to the founder’s name. “But we need proof. A DNA match between you and Elijah Ellison.”

He looked at the small vial of tissue, his brow furrowed with a mixture of disbelief and hope. “How do we do that?”

“We need a sample from you,” I explained, “and we need to submit it to an official state forensic laboratory. It has to be legally binding, no room for Kingsford’s lawyers to discredit it.”

Arthur nodded slowly. “Whatever it takes, son. This place… it was always special. Always felt like home, even when they treated me like a servant.”

Later that afternoon, I carefully collected a blood sample from Arthur using a sterile kit I’d procured. He winced slightly but held steady. I labeled the vial meticulously, using only a coded identifier.

Then, under the pretense of “archival documentation review,” I managed to slip away from the retreat. Sarah had provided me with the contact details for a specific, accredited state forensic laboratory known for its work on historical lineage cases.

The lab itself was a sterile, impersonal building tucked away in an industrial park. The air inside smelled of cleaning solution and faint chemicals. A polite, uniformed technician greeted me at the reception desk.

“I need to submit two samples for patrilineal descent verification,” I stated, keeping my voice level. “One is a current biological sample, the other is an archival tissue sample from the original founder. This needs to be completely confidential and fast-tracked if possible, given the time-sensitive nature of the corporate dispute.”

I handed over Arthur’s freshly collected blood sample, again with only the coded identifier, and the small vial containing the founder tissue archive. I provided the necessary forms, carefully omitting any direct mention of Kingsford or the corporate dispute, framing it instead as a “private historical lineage inquiry with potential legal implications.”

The technician noted the request. “Standard turnaround is usually six to eight weeks, Mr. Ellison. For fast-track, we’ll need official court authorization. That can reduce it to two weeks, sometimes less.”

I nodded, already planning my next move. The discreet submission of Arthur’s sample alongside the precious founder tissue archives to the official state forensic laboratory was done. The mechanism to prove direct patrilineal descent was now in motion.
