After Her Arrogant Husband Hires His Mistress to Publicly Humiliate Her at Their $450 Million Firm, Secret Board Advisor Claire Signs Their Direct Dismissal Order Only to Pay a Devastating Personal...
The board meeting ended in a flurry of hushed conversations and hurried departures. Julian and Chloe remained frozen in their seats, surrounded by the wreckage of their careers. As the last board member exited, I turned to Julian.
“Julian,” I said, my voice flat. “My office. Now.”
He flinched, then slowly pushed himself to his feet. Chloe remained slumped, sobbing quietly.
“Alone,” I clarified, my eyes fixed on Julian. “No lawyers. No witnesses. Just you and me.”
He hesitated, a flicker of defiance in his eyes, but then the full weight of his defeat seemed to settle on him. He nodded, then stumbled out of the room, heading towards what had been his executive office, now just a room.
I followed him down the hall, the silence oppressive. The office was exactly as he’d left it – expensive art on the walls, awards gleaming on the credenza, a sprawling view of the city. He stood awkwardly in the center of the room, his eyes avoiding mine.
“Claire,” he started, his voice a pathetic whisper. “Please. I can explain. This is all a misunderstanding. Genevieve… she’s always hated me.”
I walked over to his large, executive desk, placing my hands on the cool, polished surface. “A misunderstanding, Julian? $450 million in stolen funds? Shell corporations in Chloe’s name?”
He wrung his hands. “I… I was under pressure. The market was volatile. I was protecting my investments, protecting *us*.”
“Protecting us?” I scoffed, a bitter laugh escaping my lips. “You were protecting your greed. Your desire for more, always more. You didn’t care who you trampled to get it.”
He looked up then, his eyes pleading. “Claire, please. Don’t do this. Think about our life. Our name. We can fix this. I’ll pay it all back. I’ll give you everything.”
“You already took everything, Julian,” I said, my voice trembling with a grief I barely suppressed. My eyes burned, but no tears came. “You took my trust. You took our company. And you took Leo.”
His eyes widened, a dawning horror on his face. “Leo? What are you talking about? He was just… detained. A little scare. Nothing serious.”
“Nothing serious?” I advanced towards him, my voice rising, raw with pain. “He had a massive cardiac event, Julian. Because of the stress you inflicted. Because of your pathetic, desperate attempt to silence me.”
His face drained of color. He took a step back, bumping into his desk. “No. No, that’s not… I didn’t mean for that. I just wanted to… to get your attention.”
“You got my attention,” I snarled, my voice cold as ice. “And now you will pay the price.”
“What price?” he whispered, fear creeping into his eyes. “What do you want?”
“I want you to look at me, Julian,” I commanded, forcing him to meet my gaze. “Look at the woman you betrayed. The family you destroyed. The brother you killed.”
He stared at me, his eyes wide, the full horror of his actions finally hitting him. The defiant gleam was gone, replaced by pure terror. He saw it all, reflected in my eyes: the end of his empire, the loss of his freedom, the crushing weight of his irreparable crimes.
“You have lost everything, Julian,” I stated, my voice devoid of mercy. “Every dollar, every asset, every ounce of respect. Your name will be synonymous with fraud and murder. And you deserve every bit of it.”
He sank into his chair, a broken man, his face buried in his hands. The silence in the opulent office was thick with his despair, a silence I knew would haunt him for the rest of his life.
