My Estranged Father Tried to Freeze My Firm Out of a $1.2M Defense Audit — Then His Security Chief Touched Me and Wound Up on the Floor
The truth Samuel delivered shifted everything. My anger at Arthur, once a solid, burning core, now felt like a fragile shell. He wasn’t a villain; he was a terrified, grieving father making a terrible choice. But that didn’t change the immediate threat to my firm. The four-hour deadline for the indemnity bond was ticking down, and Arthur’s actions were still very real.
“We still have to finish this audit,” I told Marcus, my voice steadier now. “For my team, for Sentinel Solutions. And for my mother.”
Just as I was trying to figure out our next move, my secure phone buzzed. It was Elena. Her message was brief, coded, but utterly clear: `Washroom suite. Final pre-op. Level 4. Your original bypass pass is re-activated. See you inside.`
My original bypass pass. The one Arthur’s security chief, Mark Garrick, had attempted to invalidate. Elena had defied Arthur, crossed corporate protocol, and found a way to get me into the most secure part of the facility, the restricted executive decontamination and washroom area, where the final board inspection was set to take place.
“Marcus,” I said, my eyes fixed on the time display on my tablet. “Get the team ready. We’re going in.”
I made my way through the maze of hallways, the federal bypass pass Elena had mentioned now pulsing with a subtle, reassuring green light on my device. The building was quieter now, the hum of machinery replaced by the hushed movements of executive staff preparing for the final audit. I felt a surge of adrenaline mixed with resolve.
Reaching Level 4, I found the unassuming door to the executive washroom suite. It looked like any other high-end corporate restroom, but behind it lay a decontamination chamber, specialized equipment, and direct access to the cleanroom facilities where the final inspection was imminent. I swiped my bypass pass. The lock disengaged with a soft click.
I stepped inside. The air was sterile, cool, smelling faintly of ozone. The room was empty, gleaming white tiles reflecting the soft overhead lights. This was it. The belly of the beast.
As I began to prepare, checking my comms gear and audit tools, a sudden, jarring sound echoed through the door I’d just entered. A heavy thud, then a muffled shout. My head snapped up.
Mark Garrick’s voice boomed from the other side of the door. “What the hell? My system just flagged an unauthorized entry to the Level 4 washroom suite! That’s impossible! Who cleared this?”
Then Arthur’s voice, sharper, laced with barely contained fury. “What did you say, Garrick? Who is in there?”
Panic. Anger. But mostly, a quiet certainty settled over me. They knew. And they were coming. The final confrontation was here. I adjusted the weight of my tactical vest, a phantom sense of my mother’s strength flowing through me. I would not let them win. Not after everything.
