My Estranged Father Tried to Freeze My Firm Out of a $1.2M Defense Audit — Then His Security Chief Touched Me and Wound Up on the Floor
The door to the executive washroom suite burst open, slamming against the wall with a hollow thud. Mark Garrick stood framed in the doorway, his face purple with rage, followed closely by Arthur, whose expression was a cold mask of fury. Behind them, through the open door, I could glimpse the faces of several board members and executives, their expressions a mix of shock and confusion.
“What in the living hell are you doing in here?” Garrick snarled, striding towards me. “This is a restricted executive prep area! Your temporary passes mean nothing in here!”
Arthur stepped further into the room, his eyes burning into mine. “Maya, I warned you. This is an official facility. You are not authorized to be here.”
I stood my ground, my hands at my sides, my posture relaxed but ready. The smell of disinfectant filled the air, oddly sharpening my senses. Garrick advanced, his body language aggressive, clearly intending to physically remove me. He’d expected me to back down earlier; he wouldn’t make that mistake again.
“You’re in violation of multiple security protocols,” Garrick spat, reaching out. His hand lunged for my chest, his fingers aiming for my federal badge. “Give me that badge, contractor. You’re out.”
His touch was rough, possessive. In a fraction of a second, instinct took over. The years of tactical training, of learning to neutralize threats far larger and stronger, clicked into place.
As his hand closed over my badge, I didn’t recoil. Instead, I grabbed his wrist, twisting it sharply inwards. Garrick grunted in surprise. My other hand moved in a blur, sweeping his lead leg out from under him with a precise, low kick.
His 220-pound frame went airborne for a split second, his eyes wide with shock. Then, with a sickening thud, he slammed onto the gleaming white tile floor. The impact echoed through the hushed room, making the board members flinch.
Before he could register what had happened, I was already moving. I dropped low, pinning his arm behind his back, my knee pressing firmly into his shoulder blade. His face was twisted in a grimace of pain and disbelief, his cheek pressed against the cool tile. He struggled, a frustrated growl rumbling in his chest, but he was completely immobilized.
The entire executive floor, visible through the open doorway, fell into an absolute, deathly silence.
Arthur stood frozen, his eyes wide, his mouth slightly agape. He looked from Garrick, pinned helplessly on the floor, to me, standing over him, my breathing even, my expression unreadable.
I held Garrick there, not speaking, not moving, for what felt like an eternity. The only sounds were the distant hum of the building and Garrick’s labored breathing. The silence was absolute, heavy with the unspoken realization that hung in the sterile air. His chief of corporate security, a man who intimidated others for a living, had been neutralized by me in seconds.
