Chapter 9: Authorizing State Eviction Order

#content-1

I returned to the main hall, the blue phone warm and heavy in my pocket. The chaos had intensified. Several city council members were now openly arguing with Officer Reed, citing parliamentary procedure and their constitutional rights.

Lauren stood at the center of the fray, her eyes blazing, shouting at anyone who would listen about “political overreach” and “undemocratic bullying.” Richard hovered nervously behind her, his face a pale mask.

I walked directly to the podium, past the scattered champagne flutes and forgotten canapés. A microphone stood ready. My voice, when I spoke, cut through the din.

“Attention, everyone,” I stated, my voice calm but firm. “As the Executive Director of the State Historic Venues Trust, and in light of overwhelming evidence of criminal conspiracy and fraud, I am hereby issuing a formal eviction order.”

A hush fell over the room. Then, a fresh wave of murmuring.

“Officer Reed, please ensure all unauthorized personnel, including members of the City Council who are currently trespassing, are escorted from the premises.”

Officer Reed nodded crisply. “Marshals, begin the eviction. Block all exits. No one leaves until identity is verified.”

The marshals, who had been holding their positions, now moved. They formed a quiet but unyielding line across the main double doors, physically blocking anyone from leaving or entering. Their presence was a clear, unambiguous statement of authority.

Lauren shrieked. “You can’t do this! This is an illegal order!”

Suddenly, the large screens broadcasting the event, which had been flickering with live news feeds, went black. The local news crews, who had been streaming the entire standoff, shouted in frustration, their monitors displaying only static.

“What’s happening?” a reporter yelled, banging on his camera.

A smirk ghosted across Lauren’s face. She pulled a small, sleek device from her purse. It had a blinking red light. “You think you’re so smart, Mom? Fine. Let them try to broadcast this.”

My eyes narrowed. A signal jammer. She was attempting to cut off the outside world, to prevent the public from witnessing her public downfall. She was trying to control the narrative, even now, in this desperate moment.

“This is a high-frequency signal jammer,” I announced, my voice unwavering. “Designed to block all cellular and broadcast signals within the pavilion. A desperate attempt to silence the truth.”

Lauren just laughed, a harsh, brittle sound. “Good luck getting your story out now, Mom. No signal, no broadcast. Just your word against mine.”

The irony was not lost on me. She had used a hidden phone, a secret network, and now a jamming device. Her entire operation was built on secrecy and denial.

But I still had the blue phone. And I had the marshals. The eviction had begun.
