The boardroom became a scene of controlled chaos. The syndicate enforcers moved with chilling efficiency, their presence radiating an undeniable authority. Arthur, still reeling from the shock, tried to intervene, but the scarred man merely raised a hand, stopping him without a word. The board members huddled together, their faces pale, clearly terrified.

Eleanor, however, was in outright hysterics. “No! You can’t! This is my estate! My meeting!” she shrieked, her voice cracking. Her bravado had completely evaporated, replaced by raw, desperate fear. “I can get the money! Just give me more time! The trust… it’s worth $40 million! I can access it!”

The scarred man, whose name I later learned was Sergei, merely stared at her, an expression of cold patience on his face. “The collateral, Ms. Albright, was never yours to pledge.”

He turned to the stunned board. “Victor Kozlov does not appreciate being made a fool of. Ms. Albright promised him control over Albright Holdings’ stock options as collateral for her… recreational debts. Options she did not legally own, having no executive board position in her own right.”

Sergei paused, letting that sink in. The board members exchanged horrified glances. Eleanor had used phantom stock options, a clear act of corporate fraud, to secure her illicit loans. She wasn’t just gaslighting Chloe; she was actively embezzling from Arthur’s company.

“The total sum of her outstanding obligations,” Sergei continued, his voice precise, “including accrued interest and penalties for misrepresentation, is now approximately seven million dollars. Plus the punitive fees for wasting our time.” He looked at Eleanor. “Mr. Kozlov has decided to collect directly.”

Eleanor clawed at the air. “I’ll pay! I’ll sell everything! Just don’t… don’t take me!” Her eyes darted wildly around the room, pleading, but finding no sympathy.

Sergei nodded to two of his men. They moved towards Eleanor, flanking her, their movements swift and silent. She stumbled backward, desperately trying to evade their grasp, but they were too strong, too determined. One took her arm, the other her shoulder.

“You are no longer an issue for the Albright Estate or Holdings,” Sergei stated, addressing Arthur and the board, a chilling finality in his tone. “Her debt will be settled. Our way.”

They escorted a wailing, struggling Eleanor out of the boardroom. Her pleas and curses faded down the hallway, the sound of a luxury sedan idling outside quickly swallowing them. The compound gates, once a symbol of impenetrable wealth, now stood breached and silent. No police sirens. No formal arrest. Just the chilling, efficient reclamation of a debt, handled entirely by the criminal underworld. The confrontation, the legal battle, the charges of poisoning—all of it completely bypassed by a shadow justice system.

Arthur stood rigid, his hand still gripping the table, his face ashen. The board members exchanged stunned, relieved glances. The external threat was gone, brutally and unexpectedly. But the quiet horror of what had just transpired settled heavily in the room.
