Her Ex-Boyfriend Used Her Black Card and Forged Her Name For His Lavish Wedding—She Let Him Walk Down the Aisle First
Cassidy Bellwether, Julian’s high-profile wedding planner, felt trapped. Her quiet compliance under Julian’s blackmail had festered into a deep resentment, mingled with a professional’s instinct to avoid disaster. She hated being coerced, and Julian’s escalating demands for payment deferrals, despite her “waived fee,” were making the situation untenable.
She knew, from years of experience in the celebrity circuit, that Julian’s behavior was a massive red flag. His paranoia, his secretive calls, his inability to produce funds for even basic necessities—it all screamed trouble. She couldn’t risk her reputation, her meticulously built brand, by being associated with a train wreck.
Under the guise of “confirming final arrangements,” Cassidy made a discreet call to Marcus Chen, Evelyn’s Head of Operations. Marcus’s number was easily accessible through mutual industry contacts, and she knew he was a man of integrity, even if she didn’t quite understand Evelyn’s current strategy.
“Marcus, it’s Cassidy Bellwether,” she began, her voice carefully modulated, attempting to sound casual. “Just wanted to make sure everything is in order for Julian Vance’s big day. Your firm is handling some of the PR, correct?”
Marcus sounded a little wary. “That’s correct, Cassidy. Everything is proceeding as planned on our end. Why do you ask?”
“Well,” Cassidy hedged, choosing her words with extreme care, “Julian has been a bit… stressed lately. About the finances, you know. He’s made some unusual requests.”
She paused, hoping Marcus would read between the lines. She couldn’t directly betray her client, but she could hint at the icebergs ahead. Julian’s threat still hung over her, but her professional instincts were screaming louder.
“Unusual requests?” Marcus prompted, his tone becoming more guarded.
“Yes,” Cassidy said, her voice dropping slightly. “He’s been having some trouble with vendor payments. Delays, unexpected shortfalls. And he’s become rather… aggressive in his negotiations. Demanding discounts, threatening to pull out last minute.”
She took a breath. “I’m just concerned for the overall success of the event. And for the reputation of everyone involved. These things have a way of spiraling, don’t they?”
She knew Marcus was still operating under the assumption that Evelyn was a “jealous ex,” so she couldn’t reveal Julian’s blackmail or the depth of his fraud. But she could plant seeds of doubt, a subtle warning that something was deeply wrong. The personal cruelty was that she was now forced to communicate in a clandestine manner, risking her own standing, because Julian had cornered her.
“I see,” Marcus replied, his voice thoughtful. “Julian certainly has a… unique management style. Evelyn has been handling his PR personally, so I’m not entirely up to date on all the details.”
His words confirmed her fear that he was still largely unaware of the true scope of Julian’s problems, and more importantly, Evelyn’s involvement. He was clearly picking up on the general industry whispers, but he hadn’t connected the dots to a larger scheme.
“Well, I just wanted to give you a heads-up,” Cassidy continued, pushing the boundary slightly. “He’s been very secretive lately. Hiding his phone. Making calls late at night. There’s a lot of pressure on him, and he’s not handling it well.”
She tried one last, more pointed hint. “There are whispers, Marcus. Whispers about more than just wedding stress. About some of his… other ‘investments’ not panning out as he’d hoped. And some rather unpleasant individuals sniffing around.”
Marcus was quiet for a moment. “Unpleasant individuals?”
“You know how the industry is,” Cassidy said, trying to make it sound casual. “People make deals. Some deals go south. And sometimes, people don’t like losing their money. Just… something to be aware of.”
She finished her veiled warning. “I have to run, Marcus. Just wanted to make sure you were in the loop. I’m sure it’s nothing, just wedding nerves. But always good to be prepared, isn’t it?”
She hung up, a sense of relief mixed with frustration. She had done her part. She had tried to warn them, as much as she could without putting herself in direct jeopardy. She knew Marcus, pragmatic and cautious, would at least keep an ear to the ground. She just hoped it wouldn’t be too late. Marcus, still processing the implications of Evelyn’s calm demeanor, found Cassidy’s warnings puzzling, another piece in a puzzle he didn’t yet realize Evelyn was actively constructing.
