My Cult-Leader Husband Stole My Credentials And Claimed I Was Hysterical Until An Old Letter Exposed What He Did To His First Assistant
The revelation that the FBI was so close sent a surge of cold dread and fierce hope through me. Clara, covered in grime from the conduit, whispered hurried instructions for how to signal them.
“I have to get back out,” she said. “They’re waiting. The signal is a single red flare from the old water tower.”
I nodded, clutching Lucas’s bloody letter. My mind was already racing, planning.
Meanwhile, just two miles down the county road, hidden amongst a thicket of oak trees, a tactical command post hummed quietly within an unmarked dark-grey van. Special Agent Teresa Albright, her face grim and focused, listened to the crackle of a radio.
She had been conducting perimeter surveillance for three weeks, based on anonymous tips that began arriving a month ago. Detailed water testing data. Coded medical charts for “unexplained renal failure.” All sent from inside the New Eden Covenant.
A shadow detached itself from the tree line. It was Marcus Bell. He moved with a quiet urgency, his security uniform blending with the twilight.
Agent Albright opened the van door. Marcus approached, his face etched with strain. He handed her a small, waterproof packet.
“Latest spring samples, Agent Albright,” Marcus said, his voice low and steady. “Collected this morning. And the results from the off-site lab.”
Albright quickly unzipped the packet, pulling out a series of documents. Her eyes scanned the lab report. “Lead levels… 20 times above legal limits. And cadmium, mercury. Jesus.”
She looked up at Marcus. “Your anonymous tips have been invaluable, Mr. Bell. We have sufficient cause. The federal warrant is ready.”
Marcus nodded, his jaw tight. “They’re moving against Miriam. David just locked her in the infirmary basement. He’s trying to cover his tracks. He’ll destroy everything.”
“We need to go in,” Albright stated, her hand resting on the radio. “But we’re bound by strict federal jurisdiction. We need concrete physical evidence of a direct homicide, not just environmental and medical negligence, to bypass immediate diplomatic channels and execute an immediate entry raid for murder.”
Marcus’s face hardened. “Lucas Monroe’s deathbed letter. Miriam has it. Clara Monroe went in to give it to her.”
Albright’s eyes widened. “The original. With David Carver’s falsified death certificate. That’s what we need. That letter, Mr. Bell, changes everything.”
“Then we have to move now,” Marcus insisted. “He knows I’ve been giving you samples. He’s purging the archives.”
Albright reached for her radio, her hand poised to issue the command. The tension in the van was palpable. The fate of New Eden, and Miriam’s life, hung on that one, bloody letter.
