My Husband Reached for His Sword When Our Cult Mentor Claimed Our Son Was Demonic, But a 20-Year-Old Trust Clause Exposed the Truth
The sanctuary erupted in a cacophony of whispers, gasps, and furious murmurs as the commercial sales agreements circulated. Elder Thomas, his face pale with shock, held up the trust deed for all to see.
Silas, however, was not easily rattled. He snatched the microphone back from the podium, his face contorted into a sneer. “These are worldly lies! Forgeries! Attempts by a demonically corrupted boy to sow discord and defy God’s righteous judgment!”
He gestured wildly at Micah. “This boy, under the influence of dark spirits, has forged these documents to escape his purification! Do not be swayed by these deceptions!”
Just as he was reaching for the trust deed, presumably to tear it, a small, resolute voice cut through the rising clamor.
“He’s lying!”
Every head swiveled. Deacon Jamal Washington, pale and trembling, stepped forward to the choir mic. He had been sitting in the choir loft, his face a picture of terror. But now, fear was replaced by a quiet, desperate courage.
“Elder Silas ordered me to destroy the original land files, saying they were ‘outdated’ and ‘not relevant’ to the new ministry structure,” Jamal confessed, his voice barely wavering despite his obvious distress. “He told me to put the demonic symbols in Micah’s room! He gave me money to buy them! He said it was for God, but he lied!”
A wave of shock rippled through the congregation. The betrayal, delivered by one of their own young deacons, was undeniable.
Silas stammered, his smooth facade finally cracking. “This… this boy has been manipulated! He’s confused! These are baseless accusations to undermine God’s work for a bigger ministry, a grander vision!”
He tried to laugh, a hollow, desperate sound. “A bigger ministry needs… needs resources! To grow! To expand! This sale… it was for the future! To build a bigger, better sanctuary! A grander vision for our people!”
He reached for his briefcase, fumbling with the latch, his eyes darting frantically around the room, avoiding every accusing gaze. He mumbled incoherent excuses, about “necessary sacrifices” and “unseen blessings.” The words tumbled out, desperate and unconvincing.
The live stream, which usually captured every word of the Sunday service, silently broadcasted his unraveling to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of homes.
Caught under the quiet, horrified stare of two hundred members, Silas clumsily grabbed his briefcase. He didn’t walk out; he almost scurried, slinking out a side exit reserved for staff, leaving his “bigger ministry” behind in stunned silence.
The congregation watched him go, a collective understanding dawning on their faces. The entire “demonic curse” prophecy, the elaborate setup, the rushed purge—it had all been invented to steal $4.2 million.
Marcus stood frozen, his eyes wide, fixed on the empty space where Silas had stood. His hand, still hovering over the ledger, trembled. Slowly, his gaze fell to the ceremonial sword resting on the podium.
The metallic clang as it slipped from the altar and hit the carpet echoed through the silent sanctuary like a death knell. Marcus’s proud, fanatical face crumpled. The weight of realization crushed him. He had been manipulated. He had almost sacrificed his own son for a land scam.
