My Husband Reached for His Sword When Our Cult Mentor Claimed Our Son Was Demonic, But a 20-Year-Old Trust Clause Exposed the Truth
My hand trembled as I pressed record on my phone. Jamal’s confession, whispered and tearful, filled the quiet baptismal room. He recounted every detail: the $150 cash from Silas, the specific list of items, the instruction to plant them in Micah’s closet. Each word was a nail in Silas’s carefully constructed lie.
I saved the recording. This was it. This, combined with the trust deed, was the truth Marcus needed to hear. He had to see it. He had to realize what Silas was truly doing.
I found Marcus in his study, pacing. The scent of his pipe tobacco filled the air, a sign of his agitation. He looked up, his eyes bloodshot, when I walked in.
“Evelyn,” he said, his voice clipped. “What are you doing out of bed?”
“Marcus, I have something you need to hear,” I said, holding out my phone. “It’s about Micah. About Elder Silas.”
He frowned, suspicion clouding his features. “What foolishness is this?”
I played the recording. Jamal’s voice, small but clear, detailed how Silas had manipulated him, how he’d been given money to buy and plant the “demonic relics.”
Marcus listened, his face slowly draining of color. For a moment, a sliver of hope bloomed in my chest. He was hearing it. He was processing the undeniable truth.
Then, his face twisted into a mask of pure fury, a darker, colder rage than I had ever seen.
“You! You did this!” he roared, slamming his fist onto his desk. The framed photograph of his father jumped, rattling against the wood.
I recoiled, stunned. “What are you talking about, Marcus? This is Jamal’s confession. It proves Silas set Micah up!”
“No!” He pointed a shaking finger at me. “You have corrupted that boy! You have used worldly witchcraft, your womanly charms, to twist his mind against an anointed man of God!”
My jaw dropped. The accusation hung in the air, a poisonous cloud. Worldly witchcraft? Against me, his wife, a woman who had served alongside him for twenty years?
“I am showing you the truth, Marcus!” I cried, desperate. “Silas is manipulating you. He’s using our son, using your faith, for his own greed!”
“Blasphemy!” he thundered. “You call Elder Silas a liar? You call *me* a fool? This is a demonic assault on this family, sent to sow discord and prevent Micah’s purification!”
He snatched my phone from my hand, throwing it against the wall where it shattered into pieces.
“You are confined to your room, Evelyn,” he declared, his voice trembling with righteous indignation. “You will not speak to anyone. You will not interfere with God’s work.”
He stepped towards me, his eyes blazing, no longer my husband but a stranger consumed by fanaticism. “The ritual will proceed tomorrow evening. Not midnight. Tomorrow evening. I will not allow the forces of hell to claim my son, or my wife.”
He grabbed my arm, his grip bruising, and dragged me towards our bedroom. The door slammed shut behind us, the lock clicking with an ominous finality. I heard his heavy footsteps receding, leaving me alone in the sudden, suffocating darkness.
He believed me a “heretic collaborator.” My husband, my partner, had chosen Silas’s lies over my desperate plea, over the truth. He was ready to sacrifice his son, and now, it seemed, he was ready to sacrifice me too.
