When Midnight Strikes at the Crematorium, a Father Discovers His Daughter-in-Law's Dark Mob Secret Inside the Furnace
👉 Previous choice: You chose Option B – Follow corrupt appraiser Howard Gable to his dockside office to record a confession.
Leo borrowed my old car, its engine rattling, and followed corrupt appraiser Howard Gable through the late-night traffic. Gable’s sleek black sedan led him across state lines, to a desolate dockside warehouse in Elizabeth, New Jersey, an area known for its illicit activity.
Before he left, Leo had bought a small, concealed body recorder from an electronics shop, a desperate measure. He activated it as he approached Gable’s dimly lit office.
He found Gable huddled over ledgers, his face pale and clammy. The appraiser looked up, startled, his eyes wide with fear. Leo didn’t need to say much. The sight of Clara’s son, holding a small, unblinking device, was enough.
Gable, terrified of being abandoned by the mob now that his partner in crime was exposed, stammered a confession. His voice, thin and reedy, detailed Clara’s entire operation.
“Clara… she orchestrated all of it,” Gable babbled, clutching his head. “The fourteen illegal property disposals. For the Moretti family. She personally scheduled the midnight remote burns, knew Arthur’s shift, his routine. Three hundred and twenty thousand in kickbacks. I just handled the paperwork, the appraisals.”
Leo stood there, the recorder quietly capturing every word. Gable’s testimony, a definitive vocal confession, sealed Clara’s connection to the syndicate ring. The evidence was irrefutable.
