Chapter 14: The Quiet Revelation

The minutes ticked by, each one echoing the approach of the midnight debt deadline. Systemic market reality, cold and impartial, forced the board into a stunned silence.

The debt freeze was absolute. Arthur’s restructuring syndicate, reliant on access to capital, was completely unable to enforce their hostile takeover. Their leverage, once formidable, had vanished.

A few board members glanced at Arthur, who sat rigid at the head of the table. His power was gone, his machinations thwarted by an invisible hand.

Marcus Albright, his duty fulfilled, walked quietly to Arthur’s personal desk. He placed a certified transcript of his sworn testimony, crisp and official, directly on the polished surface.

Later, in the darkened boardroom, long after the others had left, Arthur Garcia sat alone. The city lights twinkled far below, but he saw none of them.

He read Albright’s sworn statement. Each word detailed Evelyn’s true intent: how she had designed the trust not to defy him, but to protect him from his own predatory partners. From Sarah Kincaid. From himself.
