The New Dawn Covenant enclave was a scene of controlled chaos. Firefighters battled the smoldering ruins of the sanctuary, their hoses hissing. Ambulances and police cruisers dotted the smoke-filled grounds.

Malachi, still covered in soot, was pulled from the paramedic’s stretcher. Deputy Callahan formally placed him under arrest.

“Malachi Halloway, you are under arrest for felony domestic assault, fraud, and conspiracy,” Callahan stated, his voice cutting through the emergency sirens.

Malachi didn’t resist. He just stared at me, his eyes wide with a mixture of disbelief and pure hatred. The handwritten confession, my unwavering testimony, and the porcelain shard—all had converged to seal his fate.

As Malachi was led away in handcuffs, two federal agents approached Eli and Ruth Halloway. Their faces were ashen, their arrogance replaced by a palpable fear.

“Mr. and Mrs. Halloway,” one agent said, his voice flat. “You are being taken into custody for questioning regarding multi-state real estate fraud, tax evasion, and conspiracy.”

Eli visibly sagged, the weight of his collapsing empire finally crushing him. Ruth, however, straightened her shoulders, a defiant glint in her eyes, even as the agents gently but firmly guided her away. They were losing everything—their power, their legacy, their freedom.

I stood by the gates, watching them go. The once-impenetrable walls of the New Dawn Covenant felt less like a sanctuary and more like a crumbling prison. The air smelled of smoke and rain-soaked earth.

Lydia came up to me, putting a hand on my shoulder. “It’s finally over, Clara.”

I nodded, feeling a strange mix of exhaustion and hollow victory. The building that had been the epicenter of this conflict was no longer mine. The sacrifice was real, permanent. But the vulnerable residents were safe, secured by the public housing trust. The Halloways’ reign of manipulation was shattered.

I took one last look at the smoking ruins, at the closed gates behind which so much corruption had festered. Then, I turned my back on the enclave forever.
