My Cult-Leader Husband Smashed a Porcelain Plate Over My Head to Steal My Apartment, but My 911 Call Triggered an Unstoppable Chain of Events
The news of Malachi’s impending arrest sent a ripple of panic through the covenant. I felt a fleeting sense of triumph, but it was quickly replaced by a deeper unease. I knew they wouldn’t surrender easily.
Just as I suspected, Malachi retaliated with a desperate, bold move. A week after the article dropped, my phone began to buzz with frantic calls from my tenants.
“Ms. Lindqvist, there are men here!” a young woman cried, her voice trembling. “They’re saying we have to leave, that the building’s been repossessed!”
“They put new locks on the main gate!” another tenant yelled. “Electronic ones! We can’t get in!”
I hung up and immediately dialed Deputy Callahan.
“Malachi Halloway has issued fake eviction notices,” I explained, trying to keep my voice steady. “And he’s attempting to lock out my tenants.”
Within thirty minutes, I was driving toward my downtown building, Deputy Callahan’s cruiser leading the way. The scene was chaotic. Two burly men in New Dawn Covenant security uniforms stood blocking the main entrance, their arms crossed. A small crowd of my frightened tenants huddled on the sidewalk.
One of the security guards stepped forward, a smirk on his face as he recognized me. “This property is under new management, ma’am. Covenant property.”
Deputy Callahan, however, ignored him. He walked straight to the new electronic padlocks glinting on the heavy iron gate.
“These padlocks are illegal,” Callahan stated, his voice calm but authoritative. “And these eviction notices are not valid.”
He turned to the two security guards. “You have five minutes to remove these locks and yourselves from the premises. Or you will be arrested for unlawful trespass and interference with property rights.”
The guards exchanged a nervous glance. The deputy’s hand rested casually on his sidearm. It was a silent, undeniable threat.
Within moments, the locks were off, clanging to the pavement. The two men slunk away, muttering under their breath. My tenants surged forward, relieved. Malachi thought he could use intimidation and false paperwork to physically seize my building. He underestimated the force of real law enforcement, and my willingness to use it. This wasn’t the covenant’s private kingdom; it was Lane County, Oregon.
