Chapter 18: One Year Later on Girard Avenue

Sal Moretti slowly tore Julian’s fabricated debt claims against me into tiny pieces, letting them flutter onto the scarred wooden table. The sound was surprisingly loud in the stunned silence of the office.

He then looked at me, his gaze still intense, but now with a flicker of something akin to respect. “Ms. Linwood,” he said, his voice flat. “Your property. Your estate. It is entirely untouched. Off-limits. Permanently.”

He gave a slight nod. The message was clear: my father’s house, my workshop, my life on Girard Avenue, was now under the implicit protection of Sal Moretti. No one, not even Julian’s desperate remnants, would dare touch it again.

Moretti’s enforcers, Anthony and the other man, began to march Julian out of the office. Julian’s face was chalky white, his eyes wide and vacant. He looked like a man who had seen his own ghost.

As they reached the door, Anthony paused. “Mr. Brock,” he said, his voice devoid of emotion. “Every parcel of land you own. Every business venture. Every asset. They now belong to the syndicate. To cover your stolen balances. Consider yourself… liquidated.”

Julian stumbled, catching himself on the doorframe. He was stripped bare. Penniless. Homeless. His entire empire, built on lies and manipulation, had been dismantled in minutes, by the very power he had sought to control. He was dragged out, disappearing from my sight.

Leo, who had remained silent and still throughout the entire ordeal, took his chance. As Anthony and the other enforcer escorted Julian out, Leo slipped from his chair and darted for the door. He didn’t look back. He just ran, fleeing into the anonymity of the South Philadelphia night. He was completely broke, abandoned by his family, and now, undoubtedly, a person of interest to Moretti’s syndicate for his association with Julian’s schemes. His cowardice had led to his complete ruin.

Moretti turned his attention to Sienna. “As for you, Ms. Albright,” he said, a hint of something unreadable in his tone. “Your information was… timely. And accurate. We will discuss your future, and your recompense, at a later date.”

Sienna simply nodded, her expression resolute. Her quiet redemption had come at a heavy price, but she had delivered justice, for herself and for my father’s memory.

Moretti then turned to me, his gaze softening slightly. “Ms. Linwood,” he said, rising from his chair. “You handled yourself with remarkable composure. Your father would be proud.”

I simply nodded, a quiet victory settling in my chest. The fight was over. Julian Brock was out of my life, his predatory schemes shattered. My house was safe. My father’s legacy, defended.

The grim industrial office, which had threatened to be my undoing, had instead become the stage for Julian’s complete and total downfall. The silence that followed his departure was not heavy, but clean, like fresh air after a storm.
