My Daughter-in-Law Excluded My 7-Year-Old Granddaughter from Our Family Gala — So I Smashed My Glass and Exposed Her Live in Front of Hollywood
I arranged an urgent family meeting at my Beverly Hills estate for later that morning. I wanted to clear the air, to force Chloe to confront the damage she was doing.
When my butler announced her arrival, Chloe walked in, not alone. She had a tall, impeccably dressed attorney by her side.
He carried a sleek leather briefcase, his expression perfectly neutral.
Chloe’s gaze, usually so careful, flickered with a raw edge of defiance. She settled onto a cream-colored sofa, crossing her legs, while her attorney stood behind her like a sentinel.
Marcus sat opposite me, shoulders slumped, eyes fixed on the antique rug. He barely met my gaze.
“Chloe,” I began, trying to keep my voice even, “these articles are lies. You’re spreading malicious falsehoods.”
She scoffed, a tiny, dismissive sound. “I’m protecting my family, Julian. Your outburst at the gala made us look like a circus.”
Her attorney stepped forward, a subtle but firm gesture. “Mr. Montgomery, my client, Mrs. Chloe Montgomery, has grave concerns about the welfare of her marriage and her reputation.”
He spoke with an irritatingly calm cadence, as if discussing the weather.
“What about Maya’s welfare?” I shot back. “And my reputation? After fifty years in this business?”
Chloe leaned forward, her voice dropping to a low, dangerous tone. “If Marcus takes your side on this, Julian, if he doesn’t stand by my public statements, then I’m filing for divorce. Immediately.”
Marcus’s head snapped up, his face draining of color.
“And,” she continued, her eyes locked on Marcus, “I will claim full joint estate assets. Every penny. I will make sure the public knows exactly what kind of man you married into, Marcus.”
The air in the room grew heavy, suffocating. I saw Marcus flinch, a visible tremor passing through him. The threat wasn’t just financial; it was a public unraveling, a nightmare for someone as conflict-averse as my son.
He stammered, trying to form words, but nothing came out.
His gaze darted between me and Chloe, then dropped again to the floor, defeated. He was trapped.
I looked at Chloe, at her cold, determined expression. This wasn’t about public image; it was about power. And she was using every weapon in her arsenal, including my own son.
The meeting ended without any resolution, Chloe and her attorney sweeping out as coolly as they had arrived. Marcus remained, sinking deeper into the sofa, silent and inert.
He was a good son, a loving father, but his fear of losing Chloe, of another public scandal, had effectively neutered him. I was isolated. The media machine, fueled by Chloe’s calculated leaks, continued to churn, and I was left alone to face it.
