My Husband and His Pregnant Mistress Forced Me to Sign Divorce Papers Calling Me a Penniless Burden — They Didn't Know I Own the Empire He Claims as His
The fallout from the frozen patents and my public takeover of Apex Dynamics was swift and brutal for Julian. His executive power was gone. He was still physically in the building, occupying an empty office, but he was a ghost, stripped of authority. Chloe, however, was not one to fade quietly.
One evening, my phone buzzed with an urgent text from Ethan: “Turn on Channel 7, local news. Now.”
I grabbed the remote, my heart thudding in my chest. On the screen, a local news anchor sat opposite a tearful, heavily pregnant Chloe Kincaid. She was dressed in soft pastels, her hand frequently touching her visible baby bump, projecting an image of vulnerable motherhood.
“And so,” Chloe was saying, her voice trembling slightly, “Julian, my fiancé, a brilliant man who built Apex Dynamics from the ground up, is being unjustly attacked by his resentful ex-wife.”
I watched, horrified, as she painted a picture of me as a jealous, unstable woman, consumed by bitterness, trying to destroy Julian’s company out of spite. She cried on cue, dabbing at her eyes with a tissue.
“Maya,” she sniffled, “she’s just a tragic figure. Her father died, and she’s clearly not coping. She’s latched onto this idea that Julian is trying to ruin her, but all he’s ever done is support her, provide for her. She’s a leech, really. Always has been.”
A wave of nausea washed over me. The public humiliation, the lies, the blatant manipulation of her pregnancy for sympathy. My phone vibrated again. Another text from Ethan: “Stay calm. Watch.”
Chloe went on, detailing how I had supposedly “stolen” the company, how I was “unqualified” to run it, how I was putting hundreds of employees’ jobs at risk. The anchor looked at her with a sympathetic expression. It was a well-orchestrated smear campaign.
Just as the segment was about to end, with Chloe making a tearful plea for “Julian’s good name and the future of our baby,” the screen suddenly flickered. A new image appeared: a text overlay stating, “BREAKING NEWS: Unedited Audio Leaked.”
Then, a recording started playing. It was unmistakably Chloe’s voice, clear and sharp, but without the tearful veneer.
“He’s taking too long, Julian!” Chloe’s recorded voice snapped. “Just get her to sign the papers! The faster she’s out, the faster we can access that trust fund of hers. His father’s money, her money – it’s all just sitting there!”
Another voice, Julian’s, sounded distant, strained. “Chloe, it’s not that simple. Marcus’s trust is tied up in a dozen different… protections.”
“I don’t care about protections!” Chloe’s voice escalated, growing louder. “I care about the penthouse! And our baby needs a legacy, Julian! Not some charity case ex-wife hanging around!”
The recording played for nearly a minute, a damning, unedited conversation. It captured Chloe boasting about orchestrating the divorce, demanding Julian speed things up, and explicitly mentioning getting access to my “trust funds.” Her carefully constructed image shattered into a million pieces.
The news anchor, caught completely off guard, fumbled her notes, her face a mixture of shock and embarrassment. Chloe’s tearful expression morphed into one of pure, unadulterated fury as she stared at the monitor, seeing her own words thrown back at her.
“What – what is this?” Chloe stammered, her voice now raw with panic. “That’s… that’s edited! It’s fake!”
The anchor, having regained a semblance of professionalism, cut her off. “We are receiving these audio files from an anonymous source, Ms. Kincaid. These appear to be authentic recordings of a private conversation.”
I stared at the screen, a cold, hard satisfaction settling in my chest. Ethan. He’d done it. He had waited for the perfect moment, the moment Chloe thought she had won the public over, and then he’d pulled the rug out from under her.
The segment cut to a commercial break, leaving Chloe’s furious, exposed face as the last image. The phone buzzed again. Ethan.
“Public opinion shifts fast,” he texted. “Julian will be next. Your lawyers are ready.”
The game had changed. Chloe’s public attack had not only failed but had turned disastrously against her. Her greed, her true motives, had been laid bare for the world to see.
