The day Julianna was forced to vacate felt strangely quiet, devoid of the usual political fanfare that had consumed Fallow House for months. Local law enforcement, armed with the verified, expired trust agreement and a court order secured by Thomas, arrived punctually at 9 AM. The crisp Philadelphia morning air did little to cut the tension.

I stood by the front door, watching the process unfold. Officers moved with professional detachment, sealing off the top floors where Julianna had established her primary campaign office. The ornate Pendelton crest above the grand entrance seemed to watch over the scene, an old sentinel reclaiming its domain.

Julianna emerged from the top-floor offices, her face a mask of furious composure. She clutched a designer handbag, her eyes darting to me, then to the officers, then to the vans loading boxes of campaign materials. There were no cameras, no press, only a few campaign volunteers looking utterly defeated.

“This is an outrage, Arthur,” she hissed, her voice low but laced with venom. “You think this changes anything?”

An officer, a stern-faced woman named Sergeant Miller, stepped between us. “Ms. Pendelton, the court order is clear. Your access to the premises as a campaign office, or for residential purposes, has been legally terminated. We need you to finish gathering your personal belongings and vacate the premises.”

Julianna’s shoulders stiffened. Her eyes, usually so calculating, held a flicker of desperation. She was losing her stage, her command center. The entire top floor, with its panoramic views of the city, was now out of her reach.

“My personal effects are still inside,” she protested, gesturing vaguely.

“Our officers will escort you to retrieve them,” Sergeant Miller replied, unyielding. “You have thirty minutes.”

The twist was the stark, public humiliation, albeit confined to the immediate scene, of Julianna being physically ousted from the very space she had claimed as her own. The forced evacuation, carried out by uniformed officers, was a tangible victory, a reassertion of rightful ownership over the house.

I watched her disappear back inside, escorted by an officer, her high heels clicking defiantly on the marble. The campaign signs were coming down, the banners being folded away. Fallow House, once a beacon of her ambition, was now simply our home again.
