Detective Lawson escorted Eleanor out of the dining room. Eleanor walked with a chilling composure, her head held high, as if she were merely stepping out for a casual stroll, not being taken into police custody.

“Maya, Julian, Mr. Albright,” Lawson said, returning to the dining room. “I’d like you all to come to the estate library. We need to secure any other digital devices and verify these text messages.”

Arthur, though still shaken, moved with a surprising resolve. He led us to the vast, oak-paneled library, a room filled with towering bookshelves and the scent of old leather. Julian followed, his phone still in Lawson’s hand. I stayed close, my mind already working through the technical aspects.

Forensic technicians, already on-site, were carefully setting up equipment. They began connecting a portable server to the estate’s main network router, their gloved fingers moving with precise efficiency.

“We need to cross-reference the timestamps on these messages,” Lawson explained, indicating Julian’s phone. “And confirm their origin. Especially any messages from Eleanor’s private devices.”

“I can help with that, Detective,” I offered. “I’m familiar with network protocols and router logs. My bioacoustics studies involved heavy digital analysis.”

Lawson nodded, a flicker of approval in her eyes. “Good. We’ll need all the help we can get.”

I sat beside one of the technicians, watching as he pulled up the estate’s router logs. The data streamed across the screen: a detailed record of every device connected to the network, every outgoing and incoming data packet, complete with timestamps and IP addresses.

“The messages Julian found refer to ‘the evening brew’ around 10:30 PM last night,” I pointed out, leaning closer to the screen. “And a reply from an unknown number at 10:45 PM. Can we filter for Eleanor’s known devices around those times?”

The technician typed rapidly. Within moments, a filtered log appeared. Sure enough, an outbound text message from Eleanor’s encrypted device had occurred at precisely 10:31 PM. An inbound message from a number not saved in Eleanor’s personal contacts followed at 10:46 PM. The IP addresses confirmed the devices were on the estate’s internal network at the time.

“Bingo,” the technician murmured, a grim satisfaction in his voice. “The text thread planning the poisoning originated from Mrs. Albright’s private device, inside this residence, just as the parrot described.”

The digital proof was undeniable. The parrot hadn’t just mimicked Eleanor’s voice; it had revealed a meticulously planned crime, now corroborated by irrefutable data.
