The AI I Programmed Claimed My Body Was Sealed Behind My Bedroom Wall — Then My Son-In-Law Handed Me An Eviction Notice
Arthur arranged a meeting with Garrett Holtz at a nondescript diner on the outskirts of town. The scent of stale coffee and fried food hung in the air. Holtz looked nervous, picking at a torn vinyl seat cushion.
Arthur slid a folder across the table. Inside were printouts of Holtz’s fraudulent notary stamps and the illegally filed condemnation order. “You’re facing federal charges for fraud, Garrett,” Arthur said, his voice low.
Holtz swallowed hard, his eyes darting around the half-empty diner. “Julian set me up! He promised me it was all above board.”
“He also asked you to forge my signature on a power-of-attorney deed,” Arthur stated, watching Holtz’s reaction. “Six months before Eleanor died.”
Holtz flinched, his face paling. He slammed his hand on the table, a sudden burst of anger. “He was desperate! Said he needed control of the estate for ‘administrative purposes.’ He came to me with the paperwork, your signature already on it, and just needed my stamp.”
“But you refused,” Arthur prodded.
“I… I hesitated,” Holtz admitted, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Something felt wrong. He was so insistent. So… panicked.”
Holtz leaned forward, his eyes wide. “He kept talking about a ‘secret’ the house held. Something that could destroy the Kincaid family if it ever came out. He wanted the power of attorney to control everything, to keep it buried, before Eleanor passed away and it all became public.”
Arthur absorbed the revelation. Julian hadn’t just been a greedy son-in-law eyeing a future inheritance. He had known about the wall. He had been trying to get ahead of the secret, to gain absolute control of the property, even before Eleanor’s death.
Holtz slumped back in his seat, defeated. “He said he needed to ‘manage the fallout’ before the will was read. He offered me a lot of money. But I just couldn’t do it.”
Arthur nodded slowly. Julian’s desperation wasn’t just about his own debts, or even about preventing the mental health injunction. It ran deeper, stretching back to before Eleanor’s death, to the very heart of the Kincaid family’s buried past.
