My Neighbor Took My Newborn Baby and Branded Me a Witch — Then an Old Forum Post Revealed My Silver Bracelet on an Underground Listing
The air in Silas’s trailer was thick with unspeakable grief. Julian stayed on his knees, his body slumped, for what felt like an eternity. The world outside, the blizzard, the search, the hope—it had all collapsed into this frozen, desolate space.
Marcus, who had followed Julian into the scrapyard, stood in the doorway, his face pale, his shoulders hunched. He had heard Silas’s horrifying words, heard the radio log. He didn’t try to offer comfort. There was none to be found.
Slowly, Julian pushed himself to his feet. His movements were stiff, like a man made of stone. His eyes, though, were no longer just filled with pain. A cold, black fire had ignited deep within them.
“Marcus,” Julian said, his voice flat, devoid of emotion. “Go get Clara.”
Marcus blinked, pulling his gaze from the floor. “Where?”
“My cottage. Tear those damn boards off. Get her out of this valley. Take her across the county line. Somewhere safe.” Julian’s command was absolute. “Don’t come back.”
“Julian, what are you going to do?” Marcus asked, a tremor in his voice. He knew this look. He had seen it on his father’s enforcers, a finality that spoke of bloodshed.
Julian walked over to a workbench, picking up a heavy iron wrench. He tested its weight in his hand, then tucked a hunting knife into his belt, the blade glinting dully in the dim light.
“Arthur Eldridge,” Julian said, his voice a low growl, “is hiding out in his old logging cabin, isn’t he? The one where he keeps all his private documents, his land deeds.”
Marcus swallowed hard. “Yes. He went there a few hours ago. He’s alone.”
“Good,” Julian replied, his grip tightening on the wrench. “He wanted my land. He wanted my family. He took my son, and now… he will pay the price.”
He turned and walked out of the trailer, disappearing into the blinding blizzard without another word. There was no desire for money, no thought of legal justice, no hope of recovery. Only vengeance remained, a path etched in snow and sorrow, leading straight to Arthur Eldridge’s hidden cabin.
