The boardroom was tense, cloaked in the dim glow of the overhead lights. Seven board members sat around the long mahogany table, their faces grim and tired. Arthur, at the head, tried to project an air of authority, but his eyes darted nervously.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Arthur began, his voice strained, “we face an unprecedented crisis. Nora Gable, driven by personal vendetta, is attempting to dismantle this company through baseless patent claims and a hostile property takeover.”

He pounded his fist lightly on the table. “She has no standing! Her claims are fraudulent! We must act now to protect Gable Dynamics, our employees, and our shareholders!”

He outlined his plan for the forced re-issuance of company stock, a move designed to dilute my proxy power and consolidate control in his hands. He spoke with a desperate urgency, trying to sway the exhausted directors.

“I propose an immediate vote to approve the emergency stock issuance,” he declared, his gaze sweeping the room. “This will allow us to stabilize the company and block Ms. Gable’s disruptive actions.”

One of the older board members, a woman named Ms. Albright, raised a hesitant hand. “Arthur, what about the legal implications? This is… highly irregular.”

“Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures, Ms. Albright!” Arthur insisted, his voice rising. “We have no choice!”

Just as he was about to call for the vote, the heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open.

Every head snapped towards the entrance. I walked in, my expression calm, followed by Mr. Chen. And then, Marcus DeWitt.

A gasp rippled through the room. Marcus, the co-founder who had vanished a decade ago, stood there, his presence radiating a quiet authority. He carried two thick binders, their covers worn but their contents clearly organized.

Arthur’s face went from pale to ashen. His jaw dropped, and he stumbled back slightly from the table. “Marcus? What… what are you doing here?”

Marcus simply walked past Arthur, his gaze steady, and took a seat next to me, placing the binders on the table with a soft thud.

“I’m here to ensure due process, Arthur,” Marcus said, his voice clear and resonant in the sudden silence. “Something you seem to have forgotten how to do.”

One of the board members, Mr. Davies, pointed at Marcus. “DeWitt? But… you disappeared years ago!”

“I did,” Marcus replied, looking at the board members. “Because Arthur systematically cut me out, just as he tried to cut out Nora. And in doing so, he engaged in practices that were not just unethical, but illegal.”

He gestured to the binders. “These are original, notarized operational minutes from 2012. The official minutes that Arthur submitted to the board, and the true minutes, which show how he falsified them to push through bylaws that consolidated his power, allowing him to manipulate stock without proper oversight.”

This was Twist 12. Marcus intervened publicly, presenting notarized records that showed Arthur falsified board minutes in 2012. The room buzzed with shocked whispers.

Arthur sprang forward, his eyes wild. “These are fabrications! Lies! He’s colluding with Nora to destroy me!”

“They are not fabrications, Arthur,” Marcus said, his voice unwavering. “They are the truth. And they expose your pattern of corporate fraud, going back years.”

The proposed vote was immediately put on hold. The emergency caucus had just taken a very unexpected turn. Arthur’s desperate midnight power grab had just spectacularly backfired, exposing his lies to the very people he hoped to manipulate.
