Quiet Heir Pretending to Be Penniless Hits Smartwatch SOS When Cruel Landlord Mother-In-Law Forces Her 3-Year-Old Son to Lick Floor, Summoning $40 Billion Dynasty’s Attack Helicopter in 3 Minutes
Gideon stepped forward, his expression hard, ignoring Eleanor’s sputtering fury. He pulled a slim, official-looking tablet from an inner pocket, its screen glowing with text.
“Eleanor De Witt,” he stated, his voice calm despite the helicopter’s diminishing hum. The rotors had powered down, leaving a sudden, eerie silence, broken only by the distant city hum.
Eleanor whirled, her eyes wide. She looked from Gideon to me, a dawning horror twisting her features. “Who are you? You have no right—”
“This building, this entire city block, is subject to a federal injunction,” Gideon cut her off, his words like ice. “All rent collections, asset transfers, and banking activities associated with the De Witt Real Estate Trust are hereby frozen, effective immediately.”
He held up the tablet. The screen displayed a digital stamp, the seal of the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. A certified federal warrant.
Eleanor gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. Julian, who had finally crept onto the terrace, swayed on his feet, his jaw slack.
“Frozen?” Eleanor managed, her voice barely a whisper. “What are you talking about? This is my property!”
Gideon scrolled through the document. “This warrant cites a preliminary investigation into widespread real estate fraud, including but not limited to, predatory leasing practices and the extensive use of falsified deeds.”
He then looked directly at Julian. “Mr. Julian De Witt, you are also named in this injunction as an accessory and beneficiary of these fraudulent activities.”
Julian’s face drained of all color. He took a stumbling step backward, bumping into a potted olive tree. A few leaves scattered across the expensive marble.
“Fraud? That’s impossible!” Eleanor shrieked again, her voice gaining strength, though it was still laced with panic. “Garrett Kroll notarized everything! He’s the most reputable appraiser in the city!”
“Garrett Kroll is currently under federal investigation,” Gideon replied, a slight curl of his lip. “His reputation, much like your supposed ownership of this property, is about to be thoroughly debunked.”
He handed the tablet to one of his men, who then presented it to a stunned Eleanor. Her fingers trembled as she took it, her eyes scanning the official seal, then the long list of legal statutes. The weight of it seemed to crush her.
I felt a quiet thrill of power, watching her read. All those years she used legal paperwork to intimidate me, to make me feel small and helpless, were now coming back to her. My brother was fighting fire with a federal-grade inferno.
Julian, seeing his mother falter, looked at me, a desperate plea in his eyes. He took a hesitant step.
“Clara, please,” he began, his voice hoarse. “This is all a misunderstanding. We can fix this, just you and me.”
I didn’t answer. I simply turned my head, looking from my brother back to Julian and Eleanor. The city lights twinkled far below, utterly unaware of the earthquake rattling this penthouse.
