I Dropped My Cheating Husband's Suitcases at His Intern's Desk in Front of His Entire Office — But the Sealed Envelope I Left on Top Held a Truth That Destroyed Our Family
The air in the coffee shop, a trendy spot with exposed brick and the clatter of ceramic cups, felt thick with unspoken tension. I watched Julian from a table near the window as he approached Chloe. She was sitting by herself, idly stirring a latte, her shoulders hunched slightly.
She looked younger, more vulnerable than I’d seen her in Mark’s office.
Julian slid into the seat opposite her. He didn’t waste time on pleasantries. I saw him slide a slim folder across the table.
He gestured to the papers within. “These are bank transfer receipts, Ms. Rhodes.”
Chloe’s gaze flickered to the documents. Her perfectly manicured hand hesitated, then pulled the folder closer.
“From Maya Bennet’s medical trust account,” Julian continued, his voice even, devoid of accusation. “Directly to the deposit for your luxury apartment lease.”
Chloe’s eyes widened, scanning the dates and amounts. I saw her jaw tighten, a flush rising on her cheeks. The initial deposit, the outline indicated, would have been significant for a luxury unit.
“He told me it was a bonus,” Chloe whispered, her voice barely audible even from my distance. “From a successful project. He said he was unappreciated at home.”
She looked up at Julian, her eyes now shimmering with unshed tears. The bravado she’d displayed in the office was gone, replaced by a raw, youthful hurt.
“He said his wife was difficult,” she stammered, twisting a napkin in her fingers. “That his daughter was a burden.”
Julian remained silent, letting her words hang in the air, the weight of Mark’s deceit pressing down. He didn’t need to say anything more. The receipts spoke volumes.
Chloe pushed the folder back across the table, her hand trembling. “He… he actually used money for a sick child?”
It was a question she was asking herself more than Julian. The realization hit her, not just that Mark was a liar, but that he was fundamentally cruel. He hadn’t just used her; he’d made her an unwitting part of a monstrous scheme.
“I need to help you,” she said, her voice firmer now, a spark of resolve in her eyes. “I can’t be part of this.”
Julian nodded slowly. “Mark’s personal desk at the office. Does he keep anything sensitive there?”
Chloe swallowed hard. “A secondary safe, sometimes. And a locked drawer with some financial statements. He’s very particular about it.”
“Find anything,” Julian instructed, his gaze steady. “Anything that links him to more accounts, more transfers, or any official documents. We need proof of everything.”
Chloe nodded, her face pale but determined. “I will. He never locks the main desk drawer when he leaves for lunch. I’ll get in there tomorrow.”
As they parted ways, Chloe looking shell-shocked and Julian maintaining his stoic calm, I felt a flicker of grim satisfaction. Mark had underestimated everyone. He thought he could manipulate without consequence, but his own choices were now turning his pawns against him. Chloe, in her naive ambition, was now entangled in a web of his making, and she wanted out.
