I bought an antique mirror at a Newport flea market, but my reflection stopped moving and wrote "Save me" in blood—uncovering my cousin's $18M old-money crime.
👉 Previous Decision: You chose Option A – Surrender the mirror to the court bailiff to avoid legal arrest.
The court bailiff had been stern, his face impassive as I carefully wrapped the antique mirror in thick moving blankets. It felt like handing over a piece of my soul. But I believed in the system. I believed the law would protect the artifact, preserve its evidence.
“It’ll be secured in the evidence locker,” the bailiff assured me, signing the intake form. I watched them load it into the back of a unmarked van, a hollow feeling in my chest.
Two hours later, Marcus’s voice on the phone was tight with urgency. “Clara, this is bad. Thaddeus Gable, the estate notary… he just filed a report. He claims the Montclair mirror was ‘accidentally destroyed in a transport fire’ en route to the courthouse.”
My stomach dropped. “A fire? But I just saw them take it!”
“Exactly,” Marcus said, his voice grim. “He falsified the transport manifest. There was no fire. Julian took the mirror. He used Gable to cover it up, to create a paper trail of destruction.”
The realization hit me like a physical blow. I had been tricked. My trust in the legal process had delivered the mirror directly into Julian’s hands. The codicil, if it existed, was surely lost now.
“Gable,” I whispered, my jaw tight. “He must have notes, something… that proves his lie.”
“He’s meticulous,” Marcus agreed. “But he’s also corrupt. His office. We need to get inside.”
