The living room erupted in chaos. Camera operators froze, bewildered. Reporters, who had arrived expecting a tearful reconciliation, now scrambled to capture the raw, unfolding drama. Victoria’s face, moments before perfectly composed for a sob story, was a contorted mask of fury and shock.
“What is the meaning of this?!” Victoria shrieked, her voice stripped of its practiced charm. “You can’t do this! This is a setup!”
Detective Vance, unperturbed, stepped towards her. “Victoria Pendelton, you are under arrest.”
Assistant District Attorney Owens held up the documents I had given him, facing the stunned cameras. “Based on sworn affidavits and irrefutable evidence, including this certified hospital toxicology report from 2004, which proves Ms. Pendelton voluntarily abandoned her infants under the influence of illegal substances…”
He paused, letting the words sink in. “And this signed confession memo, detailing Ms. Pendelton’s deliberate plan to fabricate kidnapping charges against Mr. Arthur Pendelton and extort his family…”
The cameras zoomed in on the documents. The reporters began shouting questions, a cacophony of disbelief and breaking news.
“I didn’t sign that! It’s a forgery!” Victoria screamed, pointing a trembling finger at me. “He’s fabricating evidence!”
Maya stepped forward, holding her phone. “We also have a recording,” she stated calmly, her voice amplified by Chloe’s hidden mic, which was still live for the world to hear. “Of Victoria offering us one hundred thousand dollars each to lie on camera, just moments ago.”
The collective gasp from the room was almost audible. Twist 11 was in full effect.
Assistant DA Owens nodded. “This recording will be entered into evidence. It further supports the felony extortion charges.”
Victoria lunged, not at me, but at Maya, her face twisted with rage. “You little traitors! You ruined everything!”
Detective Vance swiftly intercepted her, his grip firm. “Ma’am, resist and we will add resisting arrest to the charges.”
As two officers cuffed Victoria, she fought, tears now genuine, streaming down her mascara-streaked face. “This is a disgrace! My career! My name!”
Her docuseries, *Reclaiming My Daughters*, was already dead. Her public image, meticulously crafted over decades, shattered in front of a live global audience.
While Victoria was being escorted out, Julian Kross, who had rushed to the scene the moment he heard the commotion, was also swiftly apprehended. He stood frozen outside his trailer, watching the chaos.
“Julian Kross,” a uniformed officer said, placing him in cuffs. “You’re under arrest for notary fraud and conspiracy to commit extortion.”
He went white, his expensive suit suddenly looking cheap and ill-fitting. His dreams of a 20% cut of $15 million vanished into thin air.
As Victoria was put into a patrol car, she twisted to look at me, her eyes burning with an undiluted hatred I’d never seen before. “This isn’t over, old man. You’ll regret this.”
I watched the patrol car pull away, taking her, and Julian Kross, with it. The cameras lingered, capturing the aftermath. The truth had finally come out. But Victoria’s parting words, her promise of retribution, echoed ominously in the sudden, relative quiet.
