👉 Previous Action: You learned more about Arthur’s deep connection to the syndicate.

Shaken and utterly exhausted, Leo found himself in a quiet booth at an old diner on South Broad Street. The smell of stale coffee and frying onions filled the air. He nursed a lukewarm cup, his mind still reeling from the discovery of Arthur’s true role.

A woman sitting alone in the adjacent booth caught his eye. She had dark, weary eyes and a guarded expression. She watched him, then hesitantly slid into his booth. “Leo March?” she asked, her voice soft. “I recognized you from the news reports about your wife.”

He stiffened, ready to deflect, but something in her gaze was different. Not pity, but a flicker of understanding.

“My name is Nina Alvarez,” she continued, her voice dropping. “I used to be married to Arthur Pendelton.”

Leo’s breath hitched. Arthur’s ex-wife. She was a ghost from a past he hadn’t known existed.

“I left him three years ago,” Nina explained, her eyes darting nervously around the diner. “I realized he wasn’t just ‘investing in distressed properties.’ He was disposing of syndicate physical evidence. I was his financial bookkeeper. I saw everything.” She paused, her jaw tight. “I know he killed Clara. She accidentally overheard him discussing syndicate disposal rates over your shared backyard fence, Leo. She was too close. He saw her as a liability.”

Nina lowered her voice further. “I’ve been trying to find a way to expose him. I have the proof. The key to proving Arthur’s guilt.”
