Trapped in my father's secret corporate bunker, I uncovered the 1944 letter that destroyed us both.
👉 Previous Action: You contacted Helen Lawson, who provided microfilm evidence of the fraud.
I was compiling the evidence Helen had given me when a text from Clara flashed on my phone: “Urgent. Meet me at our old spot, 8 PM.”
Our old spot was a quiet café downtown, a place we used to frequent before everything fell apart. She arrived looking haggard, her usual composed demeanor replaced by a rigid tension.
“Julian,” she started, her voice strained. “My firm… we’ve been retained by Montgomery Defense. To lead their crisis litigation.”
My blood ran cold. “What? You’re representing *him*?”
“It was non-negotiable from my senior partners,” she said, her hands gripping her coffee cup. “A massive retainer. This could make or break my partnership bid.” Her eyes, usually so sharp, were shadowed with conflict.
“It’s a clear conflict of interest!” I pushed back, feeling a surge of betrayal.
“They isolated me from your case,” she explained, her voice low. “But I’m warning you. Arthur is preparing to destroy all physical files in the shipyard bunker. Industrial chemicals. To ‘remediate’ the site. It’s a purge.”
She glanced nervously around the café. “He knows you have something. He’s desperate. Marcus Adler is overseeing the operation. Tonight.”
My mind reeled. Clara, my ex-wife, was now entangled in Arthur’s web, forced to fight against me by her own firm. And Arthur was about to destroy the last vestiges of evidence, the physical link to my mother’s fate.
