When Her Corrupt Surgeon Husband Forced Black Military Doctor Evelyn To Cover Up His Son's $2,000,000 Surgical Malpractice On A U.S. Senator In 1968, She Exposed The Truth
Arthur’s face flushed with anger. “Insubordination! Arrest this woman!” he barked at the MPs.
The two military policemen moved, one reaching for my arm, the other for the folder under my arm. My grip on Senator Hollings’ medical chart tightened. I had to deliver this.
Just then, a voice cut through the tension. “At ease, gentlemen.”
Captain Marcus Hollis stood at the end of the hallway, flanked by two JAG investigators. His uniform was immaculate, his expression calm but authoritative. He held a document in his hand.
“These officers are under my direct command now,” Captain Hollis stated, his voice ringing with legal authority. “They are not to engage Dr. Delaney.”
The MPs, caught between their commanding officer and an unexpected JAG intervention, hesitated. Arthur Montgomery’s face contorted in disbelief.
“Hollis, what is the meaning of this?” Arthur sputtered, stepping forward. “This is a direct violation of hospital protocol and my authority!”
“On the contrary, Chief Surgical Officer,” Captain Hollis replied, holding up the document. “This is an emergency order from General Staff, authorizing a full JAG investigation into allegations of systemic medical fraud within this institution, specifically pertaining to patient care and audit procedures.”
He looked directly at Silas Pendelton, who looked like he wanted to vanish into the linoleum floor.
“Auditor Pendelton,” Captain Hollis continued, his voice taking on a sharper edge. “I believe you are in possession of the hospital’s original patient registry. Under this order, I am seizing those documents as evidence. Please hand them over immediately.”
Pendelton’s eyes darted to Arthur, then back to Hollis. The thick binder in his hands felt suddenly like a lead weight.
“I… I was just taking them for filing,” Pendelton stammered, his voice thin.
“You were about to destroy them, weren’t you, Silas?” I said, stepping forward. “Just like you destroyed all the evidence of Julian’s previous ‘incidents’ for Arthur.”
Arthur lunged at me, his hand reaching for my throat, but one of the JAG investigators moved swiftly, placing himself between us.
“Chief Montgomery,” Captain Hollis warned, his voice like steel. “Any further attempt to obstruct this investigation or intimidate a witness will result in immediate arrest and charges of contempt.”
Arthur recoiled, glaring. Pendelton, defeated, slowly handed over the heavy registry binder to Captain Hollis’s investigator. The jig was up for his immediate document destruction plan.
Captain Hollis looked at me, a silent nod of acknowledgement passing between us. I had secured Senator Hollings’ records. He had intercepted the hospital’s true registry. We had the evidence. The tribunal was next.
