My Half-Brother Smashed My Late Mother's Picture at Our Elite Drama School — Until an Unknown Trust Provision Gave Me His Studio
Chloe Albright found me by the campus library, hunched over a laptop, trying to find a way to access my frozen bank account. She slid into the seat beside me, a thin file folder in her hand.
“Forget the bank for a minute,” she said, her voice crisp. “I found something bigger.”
She opened the folder, revealing copies of old corporate documents. “I’ve been digging into Brooks Media’s historical filings. Specifically, the asset transfers after your mother’s death.”
“What did you find?” I asked, my fingers still hovering over the banking app.
“A smoking gun, Julian,” she replied, a glint in her eyes. She pointed to a section of a document. “This is the primary asset transfer form from ten years ago. The one that officially moved your mother’s remaining interests into Victoria’s holding company.”
I scanned the page. It listed Evelyn Davenport as the grantor.
“Look closer at the signature,” Chloe urged.
My eyes narrowed. The signature, Evelyn Davenport, looked somewhat familiar, yet off. The “E” was too round, the “D” too sharp. It wasn’t my mother’s elegant, flowing script. I remembered it well from old birthday cards and notes.
“It’s a forgery,” I whispered, the realization hitting me with the force of a physical blow.
Chloe nodded grimly. “Exactly. Forensic analysis would confirm it in a heartbeat. Victoria Brooks signed Evelyn’s name, likely right after your mother passed, when everyone was too grieving to question it.”
She tapped the document. “Under standard commercial law, if a primary asset transfer document is based on a forged signature, the entire transaction is invalid. Void. Which means Victoria’s entire corporate ownership structure, derived from that transfer, is legally invalid as well.”
My mind raced. “So all her executive decisions? All her deals?”
“Subject to immediate nullification,” Chloe finished, leaning back with a satisfied sigh. “Every single one. From the moment that signature was faked, the foundation of her empire has been built on sand.”
The bustling library, usually a place of quiet study, seemed to fade into the background. The implications were staggering. It wasn’t just about my mother’s 35% stake anymore. It was about the entire company. Victoria had been sitting on a house of cards for a decade, and Chloe had just found the match.
