My Husband Lied About Acute Cardiac Arrest While Boarding a First-Class Flight to Cabo With His Mistress — A Misplaced Corporate Asset Document Revealed What He Truly Owed Me
Julian cleared his throat, meeting Marcus Finch’s gaze with what he hoped was unwavering confidence. “Thank you for this opportunity, Marcus,” he began, his voice smooth and practiced. “I understand there have been some… unfortunate rumors circulating.”
He paused, letting the words hang in the air. “Regarding my wife, Claire, I must regrettably inform you that she has been struggling with documented mental instability for some time. Early-onset dementia, we suspect, compounded by erratic paranoia.”
He shifted in his seat, preparing for his next line. “In what I can only describe as a deeply misguided act of jealousy, she appears to have accessed my private office and stolen my notary stamp. Using it, she then proceeded to fabricate these baseless filings against Apex Advisory.”
He tried to meet Marcus Finch’s eyes, but Finch was already raising a hand. A single, crisp gesture that stopped Julian mid-word, his mouth still slightly open.
Finch didn’t speak. He simply turned a tablet screen, facing it squarely toward Julian.
Julian’s gaze dropped to the screen. The words swam before his eyes.
“AUTOMATIC SEC CROSS-DEFAULT NOTICE.”
“IMMEDIATE FREEZE: JULIAN GARRICK EQUITY POOL – $4,000,000.”
A cold, paralyzing dread seized him. Four million dollars. His entire equity pool, wiped out.
Howard Varga, who had been sitting rigidly beside Elena, abruptly pushed his chair back. The scrape echoed loudly in the silent room.
He stood up, his face etched with a look of icy disgust. He didn’t even glance at Julian. His eyes were fixed on Marcus Finch.
“Varga Holdings,” Howard stated, his voice flat and cutting, “is terminating all association with Mr. Julian Garrick immediately. Effective now.”
Elena, her face pale, rose with her father. She wouldn’t meet Julian’s eyes.
Julian tried to speak. “Howard, Elena, wait—this is a mistake! My wife—”
But Howard Varga was already striding towards the door, Elena silently following. They walked out of the boardroom without a backward glance, leaving Julian’s plea hanging in the empty space they left behind.
Before Julian could even fully process their abandonment, the heavy oak door opened again. Two corporate auditors, their faces grim, stepped into the room.
One held a thick envelope. “Mr. Garrick,” he said, his voice devoid of emotion. “You are hereby presented with a formal notice of immediate termination for cause.”
He pushed the envelope across the table.
“Furthermore,” the second auditor added, his hand extended, “we require you to surrender your company phone and all Apex Advisory keys and access cards on the spot.”
Julian stared at them, then at Marcus Finch, then at the empty chairs where Elena and Howard had been. His meticulously rehearsed defense died in his throat, unfinished.
He was cut off. Mid-sentence, mid-lie. Stripped of everything, instantly.
The silence that followed was absolute.
