My Husband Lied About Acute Cardiac Arrest While Boarding a First-Class Flight to Cabo With His Mistress — A Misplaced Corporate Asset Document Revealed What He Truly Owed Me
Julian stepped off the First-Class cabin onto the jet bridge at O’Hare, a triumphant smile on his sunbrowned face. Four days in Cabo. A successful “strategic alliance.” A future with Elena.
He strode through the terminal, his designer luggage rolling smoothly behind him. He envisioned walking into a quiet house, Claire bewildered, ready for his masterful performance of concern and the gentle suggestion that she might be “happier elsewhere.”
He deserved a celebratory coffee. A triple-shot espresso, no less.
He approached a luxury coffee stand, pulled out his sleek black corporate card, and handed it to the barista. “Espresso, please,” he said, already mentally moving on to his day at Apex.
The barista swiped the card. The terminal beeped with a sharp, unwelcome tone. “Declined,” she said, her voice flat.
Julian frowned. “Impossible. Try again.”
She did. The same red light, the same insistent beep. “Declined, sir.”
He snatched the card back, his face tightening. “Must be a temporary bank glitch,” he muttered, pulling out his personal credit card instead. That one went through.
A minor inconvenience. Nothing to worry about.
He pulled out his phone and dialed Douglas Karr. His chief accountant, his silent partner in so many executive “adjustments.”
The phone rang. And rang. And went to voicemail.
Julian frowned deeper. Karr never missed his calls. Not with the kind of money they were moving.
He tried again. Straight to voicemail.
A flicker of annoyance, not genuine concern, crossed his face. Karr was probably just busy with the new Varga Holdings credit facility.
Nothing a quick call from the office couldn’t fix. He still believed he was completely in control.
