👉 Previous Decision: You chose to audit the covenant deed archives to exploit Lindqvist’s verbal mistake.

Back at the sanctuary, the air was thick with a new, menacing silence. After Lindqvist’s slip in court, I knew Jonah would react violently. My first stop was the Order’s archives, a climate-controlled vault in the west wing, where all the founding documents, deeds, and Mother Abigail’s personal ledgers were kept.

I poured over the old parchment, tracing the faded ink of the 1995 covenant rider. Lindqvist was right. It clearly stipulated that Jonah’s usage rights would “expire upon the restructuring of the Order’s governing body,” which Mother Abigail had formally dissolved and reformed in 2005.

Then I found Mother Abigail’s revised charter from 2005, meticulously handwritten, solidifying the matriarch’s absolute stewardship and subsuming all prior agreements. Her elegant script confirmed my inheritance beyond any doubt.

As the afternoon sun cast long shadows, I heard the crunch of gravel outside my residence, the small cottage nestled beside the main sanctuary building. Looking out my window, I saw two burly men in black fatigues, carrying rifles, take up positions near my front door and the garden path.

Jonah Cross had sent his militia. They were not members of the Order, but mercenaries he employed at his adjacent compound. This was a direct, physical escalation.

Moments later, a sharp rap at the door. I didn’t open it. Through the thick wood, I heard a voice, rough and impersonal. “Eviction writ served, Grace Kincaid. You have 24 hours to vacate the premises. All property of the Order of the New Dawn is now under our protection.”

Another document was slipped under the door—a legally dubious eviction notice, likely drafted by Jonah himself, citing “trespass” and “endangerment of Order assets.” He was trying to push me out physically, knowing the legal battle had turned against him.

I clutched the precious documents, the original charter and the expired covenant rider, against my chest. They were my only weapons. The cottage, once a haven, now felt like a cage, surrounded by Jonah’s armed guards.

I knew I couldn’t stay here. The main sanctuary tower, a tall, stone structure with thick walls and a single, defensible entrance, loomed in the distance. It had always been a symbol of protection, a place of spiritual retreat. Now, it was my only option for physical safety and continued study.

The memory of Mother Abigail’s stern, loving gaze filled my mind. “Never surrender the truth, child,” she had said, “even when the world seeks to burn it.”

My stomach clenched, but a stubborn resolve hardened in my gaze. I wouldn’t be intimidated. Not now, not when I held the truth in my hands.
