👉 Previous Decision: You chose to accept Miriam’s hidden evidence regarding Jonah’s forged land titles.

Miriam’s presence in the silent tower was a defiant act, a flicker of hope in the suffocating darkness Jonah had cast over the sanctuary. I accepted the heavy binders, feeling the coarse texture of the oilcloth wrap. My fingers trembled as I opened the first one.

“He kept these hidden for years,” Miriam explained, her voice low. “Since Mother Abigail revised the charter, he knew his claims were void. So he created new ones. Forged deeds, backdated agreements. These binders contain the proofs.”

She pointed to various documents, some clearly copies, others pristine and official-looking. “This is a meticulously drafted ‘new’ covenant, dated 2006,” she said, tapping a page. “It grants him perpetual rights to the common lands. But look here,” she flipped to another page, “this is a record of a printing order from a small shop in Vermont, dated 2012, for ‘historical document reproductions.’ He had these forged documents printed years after they were supposedly created.”

The evidence was overwhelming, irrefutable. Lindqvist’s slip, combined with Miriam’s meticulous collection of Jonah’s deceit, painted a devastating picture of fraud.

“Why now, Miriam?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper. “Why risk everything?”

She looked out one of the narrow windows, her face etched with a decade of unspoken pain. “He broke my spirit, Grace. He stripped me of everything. I lost my home, my family, my faith, all because I wouldn’t support his schemes. I promised myself then that if he ever went after Mother Abigail’s true legacy, I would speak.” She turned back, her eyes hard. “He won’t destroy this place, not while I live.”

Suddenly, the lantern flickered, then died, plunging the tower room into near-total darkness. Outside, the wind began to howl, picking up speed, rattling the ancient stones. A distant rumble of thunder reverberated through the valley.

“He knows I’m here,” Miriam whispered, her hand going to her throat. “He knows what I have. He’s cutting the power. He’s coming.”

Through the deepening gloom, I saw the flash of headlights in the distance, snaking up the winding road to the sanctuary. Not just a few cars—a procession. Jonah was bringing an entire legal enforcement team, likely backed by his militia, to seize the property under the fabricated injunctions. This was his final, desperate move.

The wind outside grew violent, whipping branches against the tower walls. The first drops of rain, heavy and cold, began to lash against the glass. An unseasonal, fierce storm was brewing, mirroring the tempest in my heart. We were trapped in the tower, surrounded by Jonah’s forces, with only the truth as our shield.
