My Brother Paid Me $200k A Year To Forget What He Did To Our Sister On Sub-Level 4
👉 Previous Decision: You chose to go directly to Marcus’s private office on the top floor to force a silent confrontation.
The elevator ascended silently to the executive floor, the plush carpet muffling my footsteps. Rain lashed against the towering glass of OmniTech’s upper levels, the Chicago skyline a blurry watercolor of lights. My heart thumped against my ribs, a dull drumbeat in the sudden silence.
Marcus’s glass corner office overlooked the stormy expanse of Lake Michigan. He sat at his polished desk, framed by the chaos outside, a picture of calm authority. He didn’t shout when I entered, didn’t reach for a weapon. He simply looked up, his expression unreadable.
“Julian,” he said, his voice flat. “I expected you sooner.”
He pushed a thick legal ledger across his desk. It stopped neatly at the edge, directly in front of me. Its cover was embossed with the OmniTech logo.
“You’ve been asking too many questions,” Marcus continued, his gaze unwavering. “Poking around in places you shouldn’t.”
My eyes dropped to the ledger. On a key page, under the heading “Neurological Protocol Authorization – Maya Kowalski,” was a digital signature. My signature.
It was identical to the ones I used for daily archives, my name, meticulously rendered. Below it, dates. Five years ago. The exact date of Maya’s procedure.
“What is this?” I managed, my voice a strained whisper.
“That’s your authorization,” Marcus said, leaning back in his chair. “For Maya’s procedure. For the dosage. For everything.”
A cold, sickening realization washed over me. He hadn’t just erased Maya’s mind; he had framed me.
“I forged your credentials,” Marcus explained, his voice chillingly calm. “Using an old archivist seal from your first month here. Ensures you can never go to law enforcement. Without implicating yourself in our sister’s destruction, of course.”
He smiled faintly, a predatory glint in his eyes. “We’re in this together, Julian. Always have been.”
