Julian continued to thrash, his face contorted with pure hatred, as the marshals struggled to pull him away. He lunged forward again, his voice cracking with desperation and fury.

“You think you’ve won, Elena?” he shrieked, the words tearing from his throat. “You think you’ve destroyed me? I told you, I always have a backup!”

He bared his teeth, a manic gleam in his bloodshot eyes. “I hid four million dollars! Physical cash! In your father’s house, Elena! In his safe, in his study! To frame him! To ruin your family, just like you ruined mine!”

My heart hammered against my ribs. A gasp rippled through the onlookers in the hallway. This was new. This was a deeper layer of his malice, one I hadn’t known. He truly intended to destroy everything I loved.

But I had learned Julian’s patterns. His need to boast, to inflict pain. My father, with his diplomatic clearances, had always been meticulous. He never kept large sums of cash. But Julian, blinded by his own arrogance, would believe his own lies.

I simply looked at him, my gaze calm and steady. “Julian,” I said, my voice cutting through his frantic shouts, clear and unwavering. “I found it.”

His eyes widened, momentarily stunned.

“Three days ago,” I continued, watching the comprehension dawn on his face, “I turned every single dollar of that hidden cash over to the FBI. It’s in federal evidence lockers right now. Another piece of your confession.”

The air went out of him. His face crumpled. The boast, meant to shatter me, had instead become yet another self-inflicted wound. He stood there, frozen, his elaborate trap revealed as pathetic.

A guttural roar tore from his throat. He opened his mouth, his face purple with rage, to unleash a final, furious curse—

“You—!”

Before he could finish the word, before the sound fully left his lips, four federal marshals converged on him. They tackled him with brutal efficiency, slamming him to the ground. His head hit the marble floor with a sickening thud. The clatter of his shackles, the grunts of the marshals, and Julian’s choked cries filled the hallway.

They dragged him away, his body limp, his final, venomous words cut off mid-sentence, lost in the chaotic struggle. The confrontation, raw and unfinished, ended abruptly, leaving the air crackling with unspent tension.

I stood there, watching him disappear down the hallway. The shock and relief washed over me in waves. It was truly over.
