Trapped in a Night Rideshare Driven by My Father-in-Law Heading Straight to a Dark Cemetery
👉 Previous Decision: Mark sits in the quiet waiting room, his hands trembling as he opens the blood-stained envelope Arthur gave him in the mausoleum.
The letter revealed a chilling truth. Five years ago, Arthur had stumbled upon Metro Healthcare’s dark secret: they were secretly altering organ registries, manipulating donor lists to monetize rare tissue matches. He had tried to stop them legally, through internal channels.
“They framed me,” Arthur’s uneven script read. “Accused me of embezzlement. Froze my personal accounts. Threatened to revoke my pension.”
To protect Mark and Lily from retaliatory sabotage, Arthur had made a desperate choice. He intentionally feigned cold indifference, alienated me, and cultivated the image of a detached, unfeeling relative. He had taken over hospital supply logistics, a position that gave him deep, unmonitored access.
“I needed to build a paper trail,” the letter continued. “To gather irrefutable evidence against Chairwoman Cross-Lin from within. I couldn’t risk them tying my actions to you, Mark. Or to Lily.”
My vision blurred. Arthur hadn’t been an antagonist, but a secret guardian, fighting a war I didn’t even know existed. His financial sabotage of my accounts, I now understood, was an emergency legal asset-shielding maneuver to keep Metro Healthcare from seizing my patent royalties. He was destroying his own life to build a shield around mine.
