Trapped in a Night Rideshare Driven by My Father-in-Law Heading Straight to a Dark Cemetery
👉 Previous Decision: Arthur reveals that Metro Healthcare Chairwoman Eleanor Cross-Lin had ordered the match suppressed to sell the heart to a private foreign buyer for $3.5 million.
A dull thud echoed from the mausoleum doors above. Then, the distinct, heavy sound of footsteps descending the hidden stairs. Cross-Lin’s private security detail had found us.
Arthur swayed, pressing a hand to his bandaged chest. “They’ll be here in minutes.” He pulled a sealed envelope and a small, encrypted flash drive from his pocket. “This is the internal hospital ledger. Proof.”
He shoved them into my hand, his grip surprisingly firm. “You need to get this to Detective Garrity. And the heart, Mark. You have to get Lily her heart.”
“What about you?” I demanded, my eyes darting between him and the descending footsteps.
“I’ll stay,” Arthur said, his gaze hard, resolute. “Lock the vault blast door from the inside. It will buy you time.” He pointed to a small, rusting iron grate low on the far wall. “There’s an old utility drainage tunnel. Leads to the public park behind the cemetery.”
The footsteps grew louder, closer. I could hear hushed voices.
“Arthur, no,” I pleaded, a cold dread washing over me. “They’ll—”
“Go, Mark,” he interrupted, pushing me towards the tunnel. “This is the only way.”
