Trapped in a Night Rideshare Driven by My Father-in-Law Heading Straight to a Dark Cemetery
👉 Previous Decision: Arthur pressed a biometric keycard into Mark’s hand and points toward a hidden stone staircase beneath a marble altar.
I helped Arthur to his feet, his weight heavy and frail against my arm. The biometric keycard felt cold in my hand. He leaned heavily on me as we navigated the musty silence of the mausoleum.
Beneath a sprawling marble altar, almost seamlessly integrated into the stone, was a keypad. I swiped the card. A low hum resonated through the floor, and a section of the marble facade slid away, revealing the dark opening of a spiral staircase.
The air grew colder as we descended, the scent of antiseptic replacing the damp earth. The stairs led into a vast, meticulously organized subterranean vault. Stainless steel racks lined the walls, humming with a low, constant energy. It was a fully equipped, climate-controlled emergency medical facility, hidden beneath the chapel.
In the center, bathed in the soft glow of LED lights, stood a high-grade organ transport container. My breath caught. Lily’s name, clear and bold, was displayed on a small digital screen.
Arthur swayed. He fumbled with his jacket, pulling it open. A fresh surgical dressing, stark white against his pale skin, covered a wound on his chest. It looked recent.
“They were going to sell it, Mark,” Arthur whispered, his voice gaining a strained strength. “Cross-Lin. Eleanor Cross-Lin. The board chairwoman. Ordered the match suppressed.”
My mind reeled. “Sell what? Lily’s heart?”
“To a private foreign buyer,” he confirmed, his eyes fixed on the container. “For 3.5 million dollars. I couldn’t let it happen. I intercepted the transport team… two hours ago.”
